Hi folks,

I am recovering still from cancer hysterectomy and have found yes the old chestnut, liga titanium clips left inside me. I am the most lovely person you will ever meet and have tried to get on with living, but since the op, the pain has been worse than the cancer symptoms, im gratefull to be alive but at what cost? Can you email me or respond to this post if you too are having problems cause we need to take this futher, I for one want to be back at work, but the swelling, some days pain, muscle weakness and constant chest infections are causing me havoc.

They say the clips are hypoallergenic but what about simply foriegn body rejection.

Please let me know and be counted we need to stop this barbaric practice of not telling the patient, I was told for over a year no nothing had been left inside me!!!

Please dont respond if your a doctor who believes they cause no problem, put them in your child/wife/husband and tell me then how they feel/

Hi friend, i am in tears almost daily, and i too am greatful to have my cancer removed but the pain of my surgical clip is far worse than the pain from the cancer.  I have been telling my dr for the past two years that i hurt , but nothing seems to be causing it they say, but last week i saw a picture of the ct scan and there was the clip, but the dr. never let me know about it, i saw it for myself and still now i cant get answers.  I had no idea i even had one of these clips, just trying to get answers to my pain.  What can we do about this?  I am a preschool teacher and i am hardly able to work now.

I have a severe phobia about foreign objects being implanted in my body..had it since a little girl. £ years ago i had a thyroidectomy. The surgeon knew about the phobia...said he was going to use dissolvable ligature. Had a lot of pain post op. One year later had a scan to investigate and found I had titanium ligaclips in my neck. Surgeon told me he had put in 7-8 clips. He lied. There are 25 in my neck. 18 months of intensive psychotherapy have not worked. Ligaclips are being surgically removed next week. It is a very high risk operation. I think that all surgeons should be made to explain the procedures they do on patients in full. The surgeon involved is arrogant enough to say that he 'does not have to explain the procedure to the patient.' He will be in court next year. Wish me luck with the removal. It is very dangerous.

I agree - I've suffered pain for 2 years following abdominal surgery with no-one telling me any surgical material was left inside. Finally following an xray I find that multiple liga clips are insitu. IThen I get told it's routine procedure to leave them in and that 'they dont cause any problems'. I took a second opinion and this surgeon believes some of the clips are the cause - possibly interfering with nerves and may also be clipped into superficial muscle. I'm having surgery to remove them in 2 weeks. Cant believe I'm having to go through more unecessary surgical procedure but hope to god it improves my situation.
