I underwent retinal detachment surgery a week ago. The surgery included sclera buckle and injection of gas bubble (SF6). When is it possible to resume sexual activity?

Hi Sarah! The best I know, you should be able to be sexually active now so long as you're careful until you feel totally normal again. How are you feeling? Do you feel back to normal or anything like that? And I'd also say that even though that's my recommendation, you should maybe check in with a surgeon or physician just to be absolutely sure you're okay to start, okay?

Hi there,
To be honest I don’t know anybody that had retinal detachment surgery, but I think that it should be fine to have sex. you will just have to be careful with the head because you really don’t want to get injured in this stage. Your healing is very important and you have to know if something goes wrong that you might need another surgery for this issue. So try to have sex but be careful and no sudden moves that could hurt your eyes. Also how long has your doctor told you that your recovery will last? I hope that you found this to be helpful in any way.
All the best,
Danella

Actually this is wrong. After retinal surgery the patient is a high risk for bleeding and can not perform any activity to raise his or her heart rate. It's extremely important to be compliant and sexual activity is strictly prohibited until the surgeon gives the ok which is several weeks.

Sarah, i had this surgery done 10 yrs ago, anything that raises your bp needs to be avoided. Honestly even after i was released for normal activities by my dr the first time back in action i experienced severe eye pain during the big moment (what a mood killer.) Thankfully i have an understanding husband (but obviously frustrated) for anyone reading this: take it easy, rest, let others help you, your long-term sight is more important!

Then why are you commenting on this if you don't even know anybody that said retina surgery? Are you just taking a wild guess?
