Hi, folks. My friend from class has been recently diagnosed asthma. I think that he takes salbutamol as a medication. I would like to know what salbutamol is and how it helps in asthma treatment. I hope this won’t bother you much. I will appreciate all people who answer to my post. Bye!

Hello. Salbutamol is often recommended for people with asthma. It belongs to a group of medications called beta-2 agonists. It means that it stimulates beta-2 receptors in bronchi. In that way, bronchi spread. Beta-2 receptors belong to sympathetic autonomous nervous system. Parasympathetic system has quite opposite effect on bronchi – it constricts them. I hope this helps. If you want to know more details, ask your pediatrician. Good luck!
