Likely chronic bacterial prostatitis, and likely enterococcus spp. is the causative pathogen. To test for it: SEMEN culture for at least 48 hours. (That is you ejaculate into a sterile cup and hand it over where they will culture it for at least 48 hours)
Not all places will do this, and I would HIGHLY advise against all doctors who say it's not a problem. It is, and it is bacterial with all likelihood.
You can also have the girl tested, in this case a doctor will take a swab sample. This can confirm to you where the infection is coming from, and that it is not a contamination. Remember, this may not be classified as an STD, but in reality it is.

Comments like this are not terribly helpful because no credentials are given for such a specific assessment. Have you ever had this condition? Are you an MD/PhD/Urologist/etc? Have you ever treated this condition? The symptoms people are having seems to be generalized to the jelly-type globs in their ejaculate that may or may not be the result of many different issues. One thing is for sure, IF YOU ARE CONCERNED, SEE YOUR DOCTOR!! Ask questions. Ask for a referral to specialist (Urologist). If you are in the unfortunate position that you can't see a doctor, try a free clinic, research your medical options. As there doesn't seem to be any straight forward answers on this board or on any others related to this subject, I would try to lower the stress level (anxiety) by talking with a Urologist.
And yes, I have the symptoms and have been tested for EVERYTHING (incl. Prostatitis - bacterial or otherwise, sperm count) and everything was fine. Diet, stress, water intake, smoking (nicotine) and exercise all play a part in the formation of sperm because they affect testosterone levels and other hormone levels in the brain (which assist is sperm creation). For most of you, LOWER THAT STRESS, TAKE A WALK TO THE DOC WITH YOUR BOTTLE OF WATER!!
I, for one, am not concerned. Hope this helps in some way.

A jelly-like substance in the sperm is fairly normal – it happens to a lot of men. The exact cause has not been identified, but it may be the result of dehydration – unless it is accompanied by other symptoms (pain, fever, burning sensation, swelling or other penile symptoms) it should be nothing to worry about. If it was a bacterial infection like prostatitis, you would also experience a significant amount of discomfort or pain. What you can do is make sure to eat right, drink plenty of water, and keep things clean down there. You might consider a penis vitamin cream (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil) to add some penis-friendly nutrients to your daily personal care routine.

Also, were there any other symptoms? A slight pain when you ejaculate or a tingling at the tip of the urethra?

The causes of jelly-like sperm is the massive concentration of protein compound of your sperm in your "testicular sperm bank"..usually those teens that masturbate actively for years and suddenly refrain from doing it have a greater chance of having this stuff(though its normal). Because during the time youre still active in masturbation your testicles produces more sperm so it needs sugar and protein to produce a liquid substances wherein your sperm swam. so your brain may senses that during your frequent masturbation or sex maybe, it send a message to your testicles to produce more of these substances. Consequently, to the certain point of time you did not masturbate for along period, the sperm and protein base liquid in your testicles may over reproduce and the tendency of this if you were unable to let it ejaculate, it will accumulate in your testicles and becomes highly concentrated. and Subsequently this causes your sperm to look like a jelly - like substance...its normal as long its color varies from white to yellowish and no blood or black or green.if you have some symptoms of pain after your ejaculation, observe for sometime and if it doesnt stop that's the time you consult a doctor,

I've had these gel like clots for several years. There would be more if i abstained for several days, and less if I ejaculated more frequently. I dismissed it as a trivial, comon variation of all the fluids that make up semen. I've read online that it was normal.
So, two weeks ago I had acute prostatitis (fever, pain while urinating, blatter discomfort - you feel like you have to urinate all the time). That led me to the urologyst. A few questions asked, and it turns out, the gel-like clots MAY be related to the chronic prostatitis that I had and did not even know. This is the state-of-the-art it seems, science states that gel-like clots MAY be a sign of bacterial infection of the prostate. You can confirm the infection by blood and urine tests that look for bacteria. But it's not as simple as that to everyone, as prostatitis can be caused by other factors.
In my case, it was plain and simple. Bacteria infected my prostate several years ago. Could've been transmitted during sex, could have other origin, such as bacteria from "anywhere", even the bathroom, that infects the urethra, then the blatter and then the prostate (less likely, but absolutelly possible).
Bacteria that infected my prostate have been there literally for years, and that to me is mind-boggling, shocking really, because I have a healthy lifestyle, and allways treat any disease very thoroughly with medical assistence. My doctor explained that the prostate has mechanisms (don't ask me what mechanisms) that usually prevent antibiotics to act inside it. These mechanisms are there to keep infections out, but once in, the bacteria are very hard to kill.
The anti-biotics I'm on are a special kind and very strong. Not only that, but I am on them for 3 to 4 weeks, whereas 1 week treatment is the norm for simple urethra or blatter infections.
After 1 week of treatment, sympthoms are gone - no pain, no discomfort, no fever. And, I noticed the gel-like structures are diminishing. Not totally gone, but reduced to maybe 20% of the mass / quantity there was before.
I've read some posts of men in their 40's of how their sperm was "abnormal" after treating prostatitis - they said it was then watery and clear. Honest question here, have you considered that this watery clearer sperm is actually what it is supposed to look like in the absense of prostatitis? Infection could have been there for a very long time before you had any pain or fever or acute sympthoms. Maybe what you've come to consider "normal" is the product of a sick prostate.
I for one am glad those structures be gone. Always had sort of a bad feeling for them being there.
This is not medical advice, this is just me sharing the answers I got from my doctor.
Please note, prostatitis MAY be the cause for those clumps. And prostatitis can be caused by a number of things, NOT ONLY bacterial infection.
That said... I've read quite a few "textbook" posts from doctors stating that color and texture variations in semen are normal and not any evidence of disease, especially STDs, blah, blah. Well, many young doctors should remember (find out?) that the human organism can very, very, very rarely be described by generic, fit-all, summary statements like that. Think again. Then again. Then again, then again... oh well. They think it is the truth, the whole truth. Because they read about it. Some guys over in North Dakota collected semen from 12 or 20 guys over 8 months, and it changed somewhat in color and consistency. And they tested negative for STDs. So, it is scientifically PROVED and an absolute TRUTH that changes in semen are NOT signs of infections. I've read it in a book. Duh.

Nay. They can be there for an awfull long while before you have acute sympthoms such as pain or discomfort. Go to the doctor and make blood and urin tests for bacteria and STDs. Also, prostatitis is not the same as bacterial infection of the prostate. Prostitis is inflamation of the prostate, that can be cause by several factors, including bacterial infection.

Go to the doctor. These symptoms are the same I had during a bacterial infection of the prostate. Simple antibiotics are the treatment and it is working for me. Don't refrain from a simple, effective, complete healing of your problem. Don't ask for drug names on the Internet. It doesn't need to be this hard. One stop on the doctor's office, one at the lab, one at the pharmacy and sweet soothing definitive cure for you. Hopefully :)

Ignore all the people saying this is not normal... its your semen clotting to form that gel like substance and is completely normal, actually if you dont have a gel like substance in your semen then you have a fertility problem, supposedly it is to help the semen remain in/on the womb. As for your erection you may want to get checked out for ED, it may be embarrasing but you can get help for it. And in the case that this post is so old that the original creator doesn ot read it I hope this information comes in handy for someone else who reads this.
