I feel pain on my outer ear whenever I go to sleep, particularly when I am laying on my side and my ear presses against my pillow. The pain occurs on both ears and is often so painful that I have trouble sleeping. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and my ears would be red and burning with pain. I have had this pain for more than five years now, and there seemed to be no solution. I have seen several doctors about this problem, but none of them knew what it was. I tried changing pillows, shifting sleeping positions, but nothing worked. But, I recently came upon a remedy: the infrared sauna. At first, I started using it to exfoliate, but after about 6 months of regular use, I found that the pain in my ears was much less severe. Although I could still feel some pressure on my ears when I laid on them, it was not nearly as painful as it used to be- it was a mere discomfort now. For anybody who has a similar problem as me, I highly recommend trying out the infrared sauna. I truly believe that this is what mitigated my pain.

Hello all, as I have been suffering from this my whole life and recently found out that my sister does as well. I have decided (no doc involved) that my brain is too heavy for my little ear. It gets it's circulation cut off if I lay directly on it. I have cupped my ear within my thumb and forefinger with my ear in between all my life to give my ear the space it needs. Sadly I am developing joint pain in my thumb so am now seeking some other ideas. With much research I have decided to try a Soba pillow (buckwheat husk). That way I can form it exactly to my neck and ear. Wish me luck!

I have been having this issue as well but I have found changing my pillow helps. When this cartilage pain starts I have to buy a new pillow. Mine doesn't come as often but when it does its excruciating. I hope this helps some at least

I have exactly the same problem: dull ache when lying on my ear then a really sharp pain when I lift my head off the pillow. It's ruining my sleep. And ... I'm a man and have never been pregnant!
