I had a bartholin cyst surgery about 5 weeks ago, it was painful for me to sit and stand for the first days, but after that I felt fine. I decided after two weeks to try sex with my husband thinking I was fine when we tried it hurt so much that he had to stop. I felt horrible and tried to do some research, there aren't much ppl with these experiences so I was feeling hopeless. Finally after a month I went back to my doc n he said the stitches were still there and I told him about my problem he gave me some expensive antibiotics and said when it finishes I can have intercourse. I'm happy to tell you that after I finished the pills my husband and me had sex with lubrication, a little uncomfortable but not unbearable. But after that first time things were good, having normal intercourse. So keep strong and consult your doctors when in doubt.

I had Bartholin's Gland removed 17 months ago, and I still can't have intercourse without pain. I was never told by my Dr. this could happen either. It has done a lot of emotional damage to me, I Thank God my husband is understanding and truly loves me. I feel guilty because I can't have sex with him anymore, Not like before anyway. We should have been told before surgery. If I could sue my Doctor I would.

I very recently had my third Bartholins' Cyst operated on. Instead of a marsupialisation, this time around the whole cyst was removed. I experienced an extended period of bleeding (around an extra week) and pain (about 2 extra weeks).

During my follow up appointment with my gynae 3-weeks after surgery, I was recommended no exercise (that's ALL exercise bar light walking) and no sex for 3-months, minimum. My next follow-up appointment is in 3-4 months.

I trust my gynae's recommendations. Versus the previous doctors and hospitals I dealt with regarding these cysts, I've never felt misinformed.

Hi JM,

When I had my most recent (third round) surgery, they did a more extensive operation – the complete removal of the cyst. Following the operation I was informed that there was not just one but a whole bunch of cysts!

This isn't something the regular marsupialisation/drainage will turn up.

That aside, it's your body and you only have the one, so please be kind to it. I think having sex even though it was painful was a bad idea – this is a very sensitive area we're talking about, and it needs time to heal.

I would suggest going back to your gynae for a checkup and mentioning the removal operation.

Sex without cysts is amazing!

Best, P.

I am 25 and just had my 12th I&C :( I am beyond fed up! It has affected so many areas of my life. The first 11 were all in one year and then it stopped for 2 years and has now came back. I also have swelling and fluid in one lip from all the scar tissue. I am wanting to get the glands removed so that this doesn't occur again so I am researching beforing opting for it. I'd also like to get reconstructive surgery, after all the cysts and lacerations it has left me completely changed.. I am so self conscious... I was always able to have sex right after getting it drained. Embarrassingly the pain medicines relaxed and turned me on, I even had sex before the catheter was removed. I would rather by lube for the rest of my life than to ever go through this pain or humiliation ever again! Every time I go to the er they have all the staff come and look like its a freak show attraction :/ this has been very painful physically and mentally. Thank you all for your posts it made me feel less alone

I had a marsupalization done in 2012 and am STILL having mixed feelings. I had two reoccurrences in the 6 months following, but have luckily not had any since. Periodically I would feel discomfort during intercourse, but not super frequently. Recently in the past month I cannot have sex without feeling the discomfort from the marsupalization. I can literally feel the opening, I hate it. It slightly stings, but is just way more uncomfortable than anything else. Has any one else experienced this?

I had Bartholin's Gland surgery Aug 2012. I have not had intercourse since. Well, Just tried a couple times but the pain is horrible!! This surgery ruined our sex life. I was not told this could happen to me either. Thank God I have a very understanding husband. This has not only been physically hard on me, but it has been very emotionally hard as well. I don't feel like a woman anymore. I feel guilty cause my husband is dealing with basically no sex life. I have thought about seeing a lawyer. This is definitely something my Dr. should have told me. Cause I would NOT have chosen this route. Please, Is anyone else having this issue. It has taken a toll on me. I am depressed all the time. Thanks for any help.

Hey everyone, I have read all your posts and holy moly glad I'm not the only one with this problem.
Here's my story: with in a week my cysts grew to about the size of an egg and was the most painful thing I have ever experienced!! I waited to get into the OB and they did the surgery and stiched me up. The doctor gave me no orders on what to do, how to take care of it or any additional information. I researched just about everything on my own. I'm only a week and a half out and my stiches are already coming out (not sure if that's normal) and I can still feel the cyst. Does that mean it's going to keep coming back? I haven't seem to have much pain down there although my bf is going crazy to have sex because it's almost been about 3 weeks for us. Hopefully when he comes home we can... and that it's not to soon to conceive.
