I had a marsupialization done exactly 6 weeks ago it was the worst thing I've ever been through, first it was the uncomfortable sitting and sleeping not being able to walk properly and peeking was painful and the pain killers were not doing anything for me but that was all the first week... then second week atleast I could walk and sit and sleep alright but I got scared that it got septic because it didn't look too pretty down there my vag started turning purple as though it was rotting and a terrible smell came out of the wound. Third week I'm still having 3 sitz baths a day my antibiotics finish and the doc give me more antibiotics and says all is well and I'm healing ok. Week 4 and I'm inpatient I want to please my boyfriend who has been so patient and is willing to wait forever built I can't and my stitches still haven't fallen out yet and the doc told me in 4 weeks I will be fine but still no results....Week 6 and here I am my wound has healed so well and all the stitches has fallen out and I had sex with my boyfriend 3 days ago and it was amazing he says it feels different and more amazing. My advice to anyone having this problem is to be patient take the sitz baths coz they are very important...don't forget your antibiotics and wait till the stitches fall out before you attempt sex....goodluck to all...

I know its been a long time now but there is hardly anything on the internet about the recovery process so I appreciate your post. How are you now? It's been over 5 weeks since my surgery and I feel like I'm starting to go backwards. The lack of sex has made me way more frustrated and not being able to work out too keeps the tension on. When were you ready to have sex again?

I'm sorry to tell you that it hasn't got much better. It's been a few years now and I still have pain. My gynie says it's my imagination. I should just relax! Can you believe it!needless to say I haven't been back to see him again . Good luck! Maybe you'll be luckier than I was.

I just had my first cyst drained and come back. No pain ever but the the thought of having a cyst bothers me since I'm just getting into a relationship and am nervous about the time when he ants oral sex. I don't want him to see a cyst. Sounds superficial, I know. But I used to feel sexy and don't now. Would you get this gland removed again if you could go back in time? Are you pain free and is there still numbness?

I'm 35 yrs old, this is my 1st time experiencing this. I found it on my own, got it lanced immediately. The Dr. Said I caught it early. But now I feel I lost libido. Not too give tmi, but for me to be dry during sex is not normal and I need to know, cld this be why. I'm concerned. Sex has been not the norm and I'm worried.

I have my bartholin gland remove. Its so painful I couldn't seat it was hard to walk specially the first two weeks. Its being 5 weeks I had have sex only two times the first time was very uncomfortable and painful the second one was not as uncomfortable, but I do not want to have sex because I know is going to hurt. If I could go back I wouldn't have my gland remove. I would have done any other procedure instead. I read that after 6 months you start feeling normal again and I hope is true because I do want to enjoy my sex life again. Think about it it is a major surgery no matter what the doctor say. To me it was more painful and uncomfortable than a c-section. Good luck and may God bless you.

Hi all!

I'm 28-years old and I started getting the bartholin gland cyst about five years ago. I self diagnosed myself and never saw a doctor. They were painful early on, but home remedies cleared them up after a few days.

Over the past couple of years, they began getting worse. I only experienced the cyst on one side (which I've read is the norm), but home remedies like sitz baths and tree oil began to lose their effects. Last winter of 2016, I developed a painful cyst and my gyno had previously said to come in immediately and they would do a procedure. After going in, he gave me two choices: 1) drain the cyst and it would surly come back or 2) drain and place a word catheter inside for four weeks and it would not come back. I was not prepared for four weeks of having a tube, nor did I feel like explaining it to my boyfriend, so I opted for the draining. Soon enough, the cyst came back...

I went back to the gyno, know that I had to go for the word catheter. He numbed me up, lanced the cyst, and placed the catheter inside the cavity, filling the balloon with sterile water. As I sat up, I realized that it was hanging out much more than I anticipated. There was also blood and goo all below me. My doctor was very lax about the directions, telling me soon I wouldn't notice it and I could exercise again very quickly. That was not the case. This was so painful to walk and sit or the first few days, I barely did anything. Not to mention that the wound drained blood and other gunk for 4-6 days.

After about a week, i felt little pain and resumed my life as it was before, just, of course, with a tube hanging out of me... I had the word catheter in for a 3.5 week before it popped and fell on the floor after going to the bathroom. I was ecstatic because it seemed like it was all over. I went into the gyno and he said it would be a success! Pure bliss! Until two weeks later, when I noticed the cyst was returning, growing larger each day.

I immediately freaked out, hating the idea of having to go through another word catheter or feared that I was broken forever. I got a referral for a new gyno from my PC and visited him pretty quickly. He was an older man, in his 70's, but seemed confident and knowledgable. He examined me and said that he would perform a Marsupalization. As my new gyno left the office, i started weeping, not in a pitiful way, but just from exhaustion. I just wanted to feel normal.

About a week and half after seeing the new doctor that day, I was in the OR getting suited up for my surgery. I had general and local anesthesia and they told me the surgery only took about 15 minutes. This was all yesterday. It's still slightly sore and I don't think i'll be wearing jeans anytime soon, but the pain is significantly less than the word catheter. As for sex, many of the posts above are defintily a bit scary. After my catheter fell out, I had sex that night without any pain. I think I will wait the full four weeks before trying out any intercourse, and at this point, my boyfriend is used to it (I've also had an abnormal pap with a cervix biopsy, which led to a LEEP).

I hope any of this information helps, as I've spent many hours reading through these types of posts, but never sharing my story. I am also hopeful that my surgery will be a success and I'll be able to go back to a normal life (fingers crossed).

My wife had her glands removed and I will tell you it's never gonna be the same and as you stated no side effects were mentioned by our doctor either. Before doing any procedure be sure to discuss this with you doctor. Two years have passed and there's pain every time we have intercourse. Its just not enjoyable anymore and something I believe we will carry out for the rest of our lives.

Update here since my post on 4/24. The pain after the surgery was easy. i would say it took a week and a half to exercise again. I just returned for my post-op, two weeks after my surgery. My doctor told me was okay to continue having sex, but may have discomfort at first.

I had sex with my boyfriend two and half weeks after my surgery and although there was some pain (mostly after), everything is okay and the pain is not as bad as some listed above.

Note that I did not have my gland removed, i had the cyst removed with the Marsupalization.

Did this ever get better for you? I had my cyst drained about 10 days ago.... but I am dry down there and just wondering if anyone else had this problem after dealing with a cyst. Do you ever get that natural lubrication back??

Hello, I have had the same problem with my gyno etc telling me the pain is psychological and I went to a sex counsellor in the end, he told me I needed to take deep breaths and be on top to start with so that I had total control. It really helped me and I successfully had sex because of it, its painful at the start, well it was for me because I hadn't had sex for so long but the pain did stop after a little while, hope this helps!! My main problem now is when I get turned on and I get a deep sharp ache from where the gland is and no one has helped or been able to give me an answer, so as you can imagine as soon as I feel that I am turned of sex. It is ruining my sex life, have you had this problem?

I'm 19 and had a marsupilization surgery on the right side back in February. I had NO issue getting back into sex. My glands worked just fine. After a while, they produce less and we have to use lube, but that's no big deal. No pain at all. I had sex sooner than I was supposed to though, so that may have something to do with it. But still, I have no problems with sex and it hasn't reoccurred on that side since the procedure.

You have to wait 4 months before you resume to having intercourse. I'm 38 I had a marsupilization in April 2017 and I had my first intercourse in July 2017. No pain at all. My gynecologist did my surgery. Hope that helps.
