I have a question - I know there is no actual answer but Im curious what people have to say.

I am on birth control. Have been for a couple years. Now, I am also taking Amoxicillin for 10 days for a sinus infection. I know that antibiotics can decrease effectivness and therefore should use a secondary form of birth control. Since I've been on Amoxicillin I have had sex twice without a condom with my husband, but he used the withdrawl method. I'm just wondering if I should be worried about it or not. It's too early to take a test, and I just started a new pack of my b/c pills as I started the Amoxicillin, so I'm not due for my period until Jan.14/15th. Should I take a pregnancy test around then just in case? Or should I not worry about it unless I miss it.

Also, curious, how much longer after you're off antibiotics should you use a secondary form of birth control. A couple days, a week, the rest of the month?

Thanks :-)

I would say wait until your due and if you are late then take a test. My sister got pregnant at 16 because she was on BC and took antibiotics but the dr didn't warn her that it would weaken the BC. I'm not sure about the lasting effects of antibiotics, I think the dr said (as I was on antibiotics with BC too) that once you stop taking them it is a couple of days but i am not sure because i was told it about 5 years ago.

Yeah, I figured I should just wait and see. No sense in worrying too much about it, but my husband is a little freaked out and paranoid about it. I'm sure I'll be fine though. We'll see.
