I am going to have a nuclear bone scan booked in soon, probably next month some time. It is for my worsening arthritis and I know that the nuclear bone scan will help the doctors a lot in deciding how to progress with medication. But are there any risks or side effects of a nuclear bone scan?

There is some radiation exposure in a nuclear bone scan of course, but the radiation is no worse than with a conventional X Ray and the risks are minimal in relation to the benefits of a nuclear bone scan. The injection you get might provoke an allergic reaction in some cases; I think that is really the only think you might worry about.

My doctor booked me a full nuclear bone scan after blood tests. I'm concerned as she particularly said she doesn't want to do scans as I had a few recently! Can I have osteomyelitis?
