what are some treatments being done for sirenomelia
Loading...
Most all of babies born with sirenomelia or mermaid syndrome die within the first couple of days after birth. This is because they are born without organs essential for life. There had been 3 people with sirenomelia living in the world 5 years ago, until one of them passed away from a severe case of pneumonia. Treatment for this includes surgery to separate any extremities that are attached to the body or to themselves. Dialysis would be an ongoing thing for the patient born without kidneys. The two surviving patients have had surgery to reconstruct many parts of their anatomy.
