I just had a skene's abscess removed surgically.  Before the surgery I was in so much pain every time I urinated with urgency and frequency as well.  It was at times debilitating.  I went to several doctors and got a few diagnoses including chronic infection and interstitial cystitis.  Someone told me about a Urologist that is the go to guy for IC in the area after a long wait I saw him in his office, he diagnosed the cyst and said it had to come out.  I saw my GYN after that and she said I had "large leukocytes" in my urine indicating a bladder infection.  I told her about the cyst so she catheterized me to get a sample from the bladder and my urine was clean.  So that confirmed I had an infection that was not in my bladder but comming out in my urine.  So there was no doubt I had the cyst.  She had never seen one in her career.  She couldn't find it!!!  She knew it was there and couldnt find it. lol

A week later I had the surgery.  At the same time he did a hydrodistension and scope.  It required 2 or 3 stitches and he said he "sewed it to the bladdar wall" to keep it from coming back.  Well, I immediately knew the surgery had done the trick.  I'm peeing pain free now.

I have had this problem for over 6 years now. I was wondering what anyone thought of either applying or taking colloidal silver or something like it to try to get rid of it. Or grapefruit seed oil.  Any thoughts. Lancing did not work for me, nor antibiotics.

I wrote a while ago saying that I had my skene's gland drained.  To update you once you had it drained it always came back and I linked it to being associated with an orgasm, as it got larger and larger if I orgasmed.  I don't have a skenes gland cyst, I have an obstructed skenes gland, meaning it is infected.  It does not hurt only after sex, does it throb and the main issue I have is that if effects my sex life.  My lubrication is way decreased and my lubrication does not equal up to my sexual desire.  So after my gyn did not know what to do with it other than drain it I was referred to a urologist.  I had a MRI to get a good look at it and was misdiagnosed as it being a urethral diverticulum and then referred to a more experiences gyn-urologist who looked at it and said right away "oh you have an obstructed skene's gland"  So I am looking in to having surgery to remove it;  If anyone has had an infected skene's gland removed, please let me know......I just want my sex life back.

For those of your out there that are having this issue what I have found that helps deflate the gland is a small dose of estrogen cream I think I had like .001% estradiol.  It will decrease dramatically the size of the gland within a weeks time.  What also seems to work, which is natural is neem oil (a very potent herb), which I am trying now and that is decreasing the size of it.  But be careful b/c it also is a natural form of birth control for both men and women, so if you are trying to conceive don't use it.

If anyone has had the surgery please let me know.

I had a blockage for over a year. One doctor was unsure of how she could drain it, so I didn't allow her to do anything. I saw another doctor who said it was a blockage of the Skene duct and should be left alone unless it was causing me problems. I haven't been having sex and didn't have any pain.

Yesterday I went for a long bike ride- first one in years over ten miles. Today the blockage was double the size... and, after panicking and setting up a doctor's appt, it started to drain on its own. The fluid was clear odorless. I will see what happens in the next week..

Im so relieved looking at all the post. I didn't know What this thing was about the size of a grape. Ive had bartholins gland on both sides infected but never the skenes. I first noticed when I urinated sqauting over a public toilet my urine went everywhere. That night I took a bath and discovered this thing. I couldnt find my "pee hole" till the next day after wearing some pants that was pushing on it, that night before getting in my hot tub w/epsom salt I noticed lots of odorless discharge that looked familiar. This thing had decreased in size and I soaked as I did with the bartholins. I read on the skenes gland and realized that fluid I saw is what I see after I use my vibrator. I hadn't used it in a while and went straight to it. They say this gland in the female is like the prostate in a man. Its function is unclear to me except fluid is released after an orgasm large or small amount. The bartholins is what make you "wet" during arousal. That gland shouldn't be removed. The skenes seem to not be necessary for normal sexual function from what I read. I will continue my soaks and increase use of vibrator to see if that help unblock it. When my bartholins was infected I did the soaks and the day before it was going to be removed the Infection drained on its own. The first time I had infected bartholins my reg. Obgyn was on vacation the nurse practioner lanced it before taking a culture and it was ecoli that got in my blood stream, I had a 104 temp it was horrible. So heed make sure a culture is done first before allowing anyone to lance an infected gland. Hope this helps someone. These post has helped me.

Hi all, its so good of everyone to talk about their cyst, its really helped out my mind at rest.  I was thinking due to my age that things were drying out - but now I realise this bloody cyst has something to do with it.  Its only just arrived to say hello, I am hoping its not here to stay, can anyone tell me if after the antibiotic treatment whether they still had it ?  Thanks

Hi. I was wondering if any of you has had the surgical procedure done and how long it took to heal. I had it done five weeks ago and still have lots of nerve pain and unpleasant sensations in the area. Advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Tantra Girl,

Did you have the surgery? How has it worked out for you? I've had a problem of inflammation behind the urethra opening and coital pain for the past 4 years, which I've eventually worked out must be in the skene's glands. I assume infection, but not sure. Nothing is visible on the outside. Numerous uros & gynaes have failed to diagnose it. It's so painful I can't have sex at all. I'm waiting for sonography & fearful of long term antibiotics, which is what the latest consultant recommends. I've had awful reactions to meds in the past. Any help anyone?

Oh my GOD! Do NOT have your Skene's Gland removed! You need those for normal sexual function. Those provide your lubrication. If it's blocked or infected, have it treated, not removed. And for the love of all things holy, find a GYNO who knows what Skene's Glands are!

My skene's gland was blocked, the gyno called it a cyst, but didn't do anything about it. She referred me to a urologist. Now the skene's gland is associated with female ejaculation, or 'squirting'. I used to be a squirter, but it hadn't happened for about a year with my current partner. I started masturbating yesterday and got kind of into it (sorry guys) and I ended up squirting a LOT of liquid. Afterwards I looked in the mirror and the 'cyst' had shrunk by at least 4x the size it was before I squirted. So, if you are or have been a female who 'squirts', I suggest trying to get yourself to that point and seeing what it does to the cyst before any more doctor's visits.

Your condition sounds very like mine. Nothing visible but inflammation & intense pain in the urethral opening area when attempting sex. I saw 4 different consultants at UCLH & had investigations, including MRI, vaginal ultrasound, physical exams & every possible test for infection for over 2 years - with no results at all. The problem has lasted 4 years! It came on after a brutal UTI that lasted weeks. Finally I was sent to a consultant who believed I have intracellular bacteria, & though I was also afraid of long-term abx (having had really bad experiences in the past), I have been following a regime that is finally making a real difference. I've been on Doxycycline for about 4 months, one of the few abx that treats intracellular infections. It is working. I take good probiotics, follow a good diet, & I haven't suffered any side effects- except die-off (herx) from time to time which was tough in the first couple of months- but manageable! Be careful about what you take & for how long- you are right to be wary. Always check out what they're giving you- but it is working for me. Finally. I thought I was condemned to a life without sex. Good luck!

Update - I did get the surgery- they removed one and it did affect my lubrication a little but my sex life has been better to bc an enlarged gland is not in the way and I don't have to worry about it getting larger and larger after orgasm// bc I'm not a squirter I've tried. however I had this issue of an enlarged skenes gland for a few years and I wanted a solution . After I had my surgery I found another resource that prevents the gland from being blocked and is surgically modified to leave the gland in tact and functional .
Also I just had a baby girl and my husband says by having her my lubrication has increased a lot . Weird ! Do what works for you. Good luck

I had a Skene's gland removed a year ago. It was painful to wear tight fitting jeans or to wipe after peeing. I had barely noticed discomfort when my OBGYN found it at my check-up after my daughter's birth. It was small, but got bigger by the time I went back a few weeks later. I saw a urologist, who scheduled me for OR time, and took it out. I woke up with a catheter, and had to wear that for a week (which was the most painful part). I went back for a follow-up (I had seen the sutures coming out when I wiped). All was good, but the urologist did say this could come back.
