I had 4 bypasses on April 11, 2017. I had no feeling in the two lower fingers on my left hand. I also have the bones in my chest clicking and some pain associated with it. They tell me the bones clicking is normal and may heal in about a year. They could not tell me why I lost feeling in my fingers so I had a nerve conduction test done and it showed nerve damage in my fore arn area where they had me restrained. I went on You Tube and found exercises to resolve my problem. After doing these simple exercises for three weeks the feeling has returned in my fingers. I told my surgeon and he had never heard of such exercises but he said he would start telling his patients about it.

It took me two years before anyone believed me. By that time i had an extra three or so other breaks. They told me they could try and fix it, but if they couldnt, theyd have to remove the sternum and use a flap of muscle instead, and that they wouldnt know which it was until after they opened me up so id wake up either healed, or pretty much a vegatable, because with the muscle doing the job i couldnt lift anything heavier than two pounds again. Talk about a lottery, huh

I had aortic valve replacement on April 18th of 2018 and my chest still pops and I swear I feel by bone in my back moving irregularly. It's glad to know I am not the only one, but I am disturbed to find out I may have to live with this for a very long time, but it beats being dead so I will live with it.

Seems a lot of people have this problem. Had triple bypass on May 24, 2019. Life has changed forever. Dr's had trouble starting the heart after the bypass repairs, led to a stroke and went into a coma for 2-2.5 weeks. When woke up had a lot of rehab and exercise to go through. Noticed a movement in my chest only to discover that the sternum had not healed. A lot of popping and movement of the sternum and was told of the broken wires. Some amount of pain accompanies this popping and movement of the sternum. Was told it will heal in time but here we are more that 2 years later with NO improvement. Very limited in what I can do and extremely disappointed in quality of life this has left me with. Still talking to Dr to see what can be done but at times told to live with it!

I had a quad Bypass in Jan 2021, I just recently found out after my 1 yr ct that I have a Non-union of the sternum.
I too felt like there was a problem soon after the surgery, and brought it up to my doctors. who assured me that what I was feeling is typical. Now they tell me there's not much to do about it. I find it painful when coughing of sneezing and im told i can never lift anything over 50lbs. Im a pretty active guy.

I have had a ventral hernia (shark fin) from the chest split since 12/2000, and I sleep on a wedge on my back so I can sleep. Side sleeping gives me rib pinches in the pectorals. But had a triple byp and thank the doc when I see him. 73 now.
