My husband had a 4-way bypass almost 3 yrs ago. The heart issue is under good control, but his sternum is not healed and pops constantly, even while breathing. This is not painful, but alarming and I would guess, not normal. His heart doctor has finally agreed to refer him to a surgeon about this.

Is this unusual and can it be repaired by a plastic surgeon? Will it involve a long recovery as his general health is okay, but not great. He is 73 yrs old and a diabetic.

Thank you for your input, we are both hoping for some insight into this issue as his doctors seem to brush it off and only agreed to a referral when I just would not shut up about it.
