I have also gained 10 Ibs since going off the pill. I have moderate acne on the left side of my face and along my jaw line and down my neck on both sides. I am considering going back on the pill but I'm 30 and in my child baring years. I don't really want to be on the pill. Any advice or solutions?

I also went off the birth control pill recently. I had been on it for about 10 years but wanted to be rid of the synthetic hormones that I was putting in my body. I tried to go off nine months ago and lost 5+ pounds almost immediately but had such problems with my mood swings and skin that I went back on the pill in desperation. Of course I gained that weight back just as quickly! LOL. A month and a half ago I decided to go off the pill again and I have gained 8-10 pounds since then. I have not changed my eating habits or exercise - I know it is because of the pill. I am thinking it is completely hormonal and probably a result of lower estrogen. That can put your body into panic mode and it will try to make more estrogen by turning calories into fat (fat makes estrogen in women). I am hoping my own hormonal levels will come up on their own and this will be a temporary thing because I just have to work too hard to maintain this body weight that I am not satisfied with. I am very frustrated and unhappy with the extra weight but I will NEVER go back on the pill.

Thank you to the woman who posted above me! I too quit the pill about 2 months ago and have already gained 6 pounds
it sucks cause I'm only 5'3 so every pound gained is apparent! Hoping my body just needs time to adjust to the lack of
hormones :/

Weight gain and loss is both common when starting the pill and stoping the pill. You are altering your bodies natural hormone levels that it produces and it can take a while to ajust...same with going off the pill especailly if taking it for many years you body has become use to it and you are putting your body through another change.
I personally LOST 15 pounds when I went off the pill, in about a month time, there was no change in my diet, no changes in routine my body just functions better without the pill (even though i had been taking it for several years).
Everyone's body is different...and yes if you are over 40 years old the pill could've been a supplement for you bodies lack of natual horomones because of your age, so your levels should be tested, and like mentioned there are other altenative methods of taking needed hormones other then oral contraceptive.

I am 38. I stopped taking the pill the end of June (2009). I was on it for 20+ years and started Weight Watchers about a month later. This is the 2nd time doing weight watchers. The first time I did it in 2006 I lost 30 lbs. I was losing 2lbs per week consistently.
This time around it is coming off verrrry slowly!! I am following the plan to a T. I started at 186 lb. the first week I lost 3 lb. the 2nd week I gained 2.4 lb. 3rd week I lost 3.6 lbs. It's been really erratic. After 11 weeks I am only down 8 lbs total.
I've noticed that I am exhausted some days without reason.
For those of you who have had the same problems, does it get better? Do I just need to wait it out or should I see a doctor?
My doctor took me off the pill because of my age, but I am thinking of starting up again.....this sucks! :'(

I am 28 and have been on the pill for around 10 years. I went off of it three months ago and have gained around 10 pounds. I am frustrated with this and none of my friends seemed to think they were linked, but I am glad to hear others have had this experience.

I'm 23 and had been on the pill for 10 years. When I first started taking it at 13, I LOST a good 50 pounds BUT that could be also linked to eating better. I have a feeling that the pill helped out a great deal though. I stopped taking bc pills in October of 2008 because I have a the Paraguard IUD (nonhormonal) and I've gained 40 pounds in a year and a half. I think it's because of me going off the pill but how ironic?!

I also experienced weight gain after going off of the pill. I had been on the pill for 10 years, and after going off of it I gained 10 lbs. I'm 27. This also happened to me when I was younger... I first started and then went off the pill and at that time I experienced weight gain as well. What could possibly cause this?

I just stopped taking the pill after 16 years myself, and I have also experienced weight gain of about 6 pounds. I gained 6 pounds in two weeks, and I am a certified personal trainer, 32 years old, and work out 5 times per week very strenuously. I contacted my training agency and asked if they could explain to me why this might be happening. THey researched and told me that many women do bloat after they discontinue the pills, it is like PMS while the body tries to regulate production of hormones. All we can do is continue exercising and eating healthy and hope the body will release the weight once it regulates itself. Checking w/ the docor is always a good idea w/ unexplained wegith gain as well.

I have been on Yaz for about 2 years now. I am 20 years old. I recently missed the last pills of my pack and stopped taking it for about 3 weeks. I have gained 10 pounds in this amount of time. I am a college athlete, so I'm very active. Stopping the pill is the only explanation I have for this weight gain. I am about to start a new pack, I'm hoping to see a drop in the weight I have put on.

I am 27yrs old and recently quit taking birth control a few months back. I have also gained about 6lbs and have not changed anything in my diet, actually I have been exercising more than I was before ( previously I was doing no exercise at all) and I know it's not muscle gain b/c my clothes are fitting tighter. I was curious if it had something to do with my endometriosis- when I am not on birth control, I actually feel alot worse b/c of the endometriosis- my symptoms from the disease are worse, I become bloated, extremely fatigued, very emotional and hormonal imbalance, etc. I was just curious if the wt gain could be b/c of that. My husband and I would like to try for a child, so that's why I went off the pill- but, unlike most women, I feel worse from being off the pill, not better. I also recently started taking Zoloft ( for the emotional issues from being off the pill) so the wt gain could be from that also, or both. I know it has to be one of the two. Any advice would be helpful - thanks:)

Hi all,
I have been on BC for abt 12 years and i have stopped the pill at the end of december, as it was causing me a lot of health problem, I was on Logynon. I got my period in January and February normally, but suddenly now I am almost 3 weeks over my usual date and still no sign of period. I have done the pregnancy test last week, but it was showing negative, so im not sure what is happening. I have been feeling a bit dizzy, bloated, moody and had a slight feeling of nausea. Also I have put weight since, which i hoped will rather go down than up. I have the little cramps and feeling in my tummy, like i used to have a week beore getting my period, but still nothing? Has anyone experienced anything like that? Is there anyone out there having the same issue?

I am 24 (soon to be 25) and stopped taking Ortho Tricyclen Lo the first of January (2010). I have gained about 10 pounds PER MONTH with no change in diet, routine, or exercise. Physicians say it couldn't be stopping the pill causing it, but my mother said she gained 30 pounds when she stopped hers when she was around my age. I am so down and out about gaining so much weight. March 3rd, I found out my husband and I were pregnant. March 9th, this excitement was shattered due to requiring emergency surgery for an ectopic pregnancy. I am now recovering and rearing to try again, but still upset about weight gain. It is affecting everything (my sex drive, my self-conscience, image, mood, etc). My husband tells me it isn't bad and that I shouldn't worry about it because we are still wanting to try again. He tells me to wait and worry about it after we are pregnant, successful and have the baby. I don't know if I can though. None of my clothes fit! I'd like to know if anyone else can relate or can give me an idea as to what is going on. I saw in another post, someone mentioned getting the thyroid checked. I have had mine checked. There are no concerns there by the doctor. Hope to hear something back...much hope.

I am 24 years old. I have been on birth control pills since I was 13. I was always a tiny girl. I have took a break off the pill, Also the nuvaring several times and the weight increased when I stopped!!!!! It is horrible! I now have stopped the pill again thinking of getting an iud. But the bloat and weight gain is really upsetting me. I gained a good 12 pounds and constantly feel bloated. And it's only been 1 1/2 months after stopping. The doctor diagnosed me with IBS last week. I really believe the IBS has to do with stopping the pill. It is so frustrating because when I have took breaks and stopped the pill I gained weight... Then I got back on the pill and lost all the weight again. I don't want to be on birth control any longer because I think I have been on it way too long. It just is so hard because I eat organic and so healthy and I'm active, I'm always on my feet. Why is this weight gain happening? It's opposite, the water weight should come off when you stop?? I'm just going to continue to work out and eat healthy and pray the bloat and weight gain goes away soon.
