I too was on Nuva Ring for about 5 years and recently went off because I am not active, over 42 and didn't want the risk. And in one month, I have gained almost 10 pounds. Nothing else has changed in my routine. Additionally, I still haven't gotten my period, and am so irregular with digestion, it's painful. I have been constipated for 6 weeks now. It's killing me .....uggghhhh.

I am 29 and have also gained 10lbs exactly in 2 months since I discontinued my birth control. I have taken it since I was 17. Other than the 3 months it took me to get pregnant and during my pregnancy. We are trying for another child and this weight gain has been a downer. I did not have this side effect last time, but I was 4 years younger. More excersize for me:)

I am 23. I had a stroke back in september. I have everything almost back to normal minus my weight. I have gained 15 pounds since my stroke. I am very active in the summer but when winter comes I do not do anything. My activeness, is normal for me. Since I had a stroke I am not allowed to use birth control anymore and I was on birth control during my stroke. I have done HCG diet twice and lost about 10 pounds and just having so much trouble losing it. I just hope one day someone can prove that the weight gain is from coming off the pills.

I began taking birth control at 16 to help with my endometriosis symptoms: heavy, extremely painful, extremely long periods. I've been on every pill brand it seems... Yaz, Yasmin, Seasonique, Seasonale, Ortho Tricyclin Lo, Ortho Tricyclin, Ovcon35... and those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head. I'm 25 now and married. My husband and I aren't ready to get pregnant, but the pill killed my sex drive and gave me terrible mood swings. I stopped taking Yaz about 3 weeks ago, and the symptoms I was looking to improve (sex drive, moodiness) have slightly, but I've put on almost 10 pounds in two weeks. I started working out and eating better, but I seem to be gaining weight at an alarming rate. I'm glad to see others have had this problem, but I can't help but feel helpless and ANGRY that I may have done irreversible damage to the natural hormonal balance of my body. I don't ever want to go on bc again. I wish I had never gone on it in the first place! I do think that after my hormones have had time to balance out I will see improvements. I am practicing the Sympto-Thermal Method of fertility awareness, so I'm very aware of what my body is doing on a daily basis. I didn't ovulate my first month off the pill, so perhaps it's just taking a while to readjust.

A follow-up to my previous post above... I did a little research on Yaz and found out that it contains a diuretic, which can explain my weight LOSS when I went on it and my weight GAIN coming off of it. I feel very bloated and gassy with this weight gain, whereas when I was this size before I felt pretty normal. I am going to start lowering my sodium intake, drinking lots more water and trying to incorporate fruits and veggies high in water content like watermelon, cucumbers, celery, and onions. I really think this is just water weight and scientifically that has to help... we'll see!

I've been on lo-egestrol for about 13 years now. Im almost 32, just got married 6 months ago, and next we'll be trying to concieve. I stopped taking the pill in december, and yeah I've gained weight as well. About 20 or 25 lbs in 5 months! I was thinking perhaps it was my metabolism slowing down, and the fact that I was laid off work and haven't worked in 5 months. I do go to the gym, and while I'm sure my diet could be much healthier (I live in the south and we do love us some bbq) but I don't overeat or pig out on junkfood.  I just can't seem to get rid of this extra weight! I've noticed I have PMS now too, which has never really been a problem for me. About a week before my period I just want to sit down and cry for no reason at all. On the plus side, my boobs are HUGE!!! :)

Interestingly, my body has not in any way adjusted, after 9 months off yasmin. I have not lost any of the weight despite 3-4x weekly intense exercise. I eat healthily and have never been overweight. My periods are anywhere between 40 and 65 days apart and I have the most horrible acne. I really don't know if I am ovulating or not as not conceived either. I suppose noone knows what will happen f they have been on the pill for 15+ years, but it is not good :-(

It is such a relief to read these comments. I stopped taking Kariva about 1.5 months ago because I didn't like the weight gain and the false hormone activity of the pill. Since stopping with the pill my appetite went down but I continue to gain weight amidst exercising every day and having a strenuous physical job. I find the weight is a ring of belly and lovehandle fat, inner thighs and butt. I juiced for several days and ate spinach salads and still gain weight. My pants are tight every time I put them on. I can't stand this feeling, especially as I am in continual recovery from anorexia. I feel out of control and panicked when I see myself in the mirror. I just ordered supplements for adrenal and blood sugar balance and will try Indole-3-Carbinol after reading about it on this forum. I hate to just try random supplements but I can't stand this anymore.

This is great news!! I thought I have been so depressed about my rapid weight gain. I have been working out and dieting like crazy but no help! I went off birth control about a month before the weight gain started, and I started breaking out terribly as well.. I have an apt with my doctor in 2 days to get put back on birth control just to help out my skin, so hopefully it is the reason for my weight problem as well and will correct it! I miss being skinny! 10 lbs goes a long way!

I went off the pill after being on it for 7 yrs (after my 2nd child). I'm 42 & just dont want to be on it anymore.  Anyhow. I gained 5 lbs so far & am not happy so I think when my period does come I'm going back on. I work out (weights) walk, run. The same as usual & am gaining. I feel bloated too. So I really think going off is the reason for the weight gain. Yes, I'm 42, and I've heard that over 40 you can gain easier but I have chnaged nothing else, but going off of that. So it has to be the reason. Yasmine is what I was on & I know it has a diuretic in it. So  maybe its fluid.  I have been taking a water pill & it hasn't helped much.

I am so glad I found this chain - I was on the pill for almost 20 years and went off the day of my wedding. I have gained 10 pounds in two months without any other changes in lifestyle and to top it off, my boobs have gotten huge. Might sound great to some but with a small rib cage and naturally large breast (32 D) I now look crazy. ANY advise as to what works to get this unwanted weight off? I already eat healthy and exercise??

I also have just gone off the pill after being on it for 16 years and immediatly put on a heap of weight, i've only just been putting two and two together because it didn't make sense i go to the gym 4 times a week and do intensive exercises, on top of that I walk 50min to work and 50min home each day and i'm just balloning and don't know what to do!

then when i googled it all the posts said no thats not normal but obviously it is since so many people here are having this problem.

does anyone know if it stops, or what to do, i'm getting depressed, i have never been this fat ever before and I've cut out beer, i'm eating well, going to the gym every day and nothing is working?

I got off the pill one year ago and I was on it for twelve years.  In the one year that I was off the pill I gained almost ten pounds.  I am just now realizing that the weight gain could be from the fact I got off the pill.  I eat healthy foods and work out four times a week.  No matter what I do I can't lose the weight!  I'm going back on the pill because I miss being regular and having good skin.  I'm glad I tried life without the pill for a year but my life is a lot easier when I am on the pill.

It was nice to read that other women were going through the same thing.  I started using the pill when I was seven-teen and got off when I was twenty-nine.  I noticed most women that posted were older than me but I had the same reaction to getting off the pill as women that are older than me.

Same thing happened to me. I went off birthcontrol and gained 15 pounds in one month. I am having a difficult time loosing this extra weight. I went to the doctor and my thyroid is fine. I dont care what the doctors say there is no other reason for my weight gain. I have increased my workout routine and decreased my caloric intake. Hopefully it will work.

Did it stabilize? I have gone off the pill and I am your normal size and I am ballooning up myself! It is highly depressing!
