Number one you don't even know how to spell "weaning" and two...you think it is normal to have to worry about your infant being lost from coming off a narcotic?????????

Hi! I would like to start off saying that I was pregnant in 2010 taking 8mg daily delivered December 22. She had no withdrawal symptoms. I breastfed for 4 months she did not show any signs of withdrawal. I got pregnant again in July of 2014. I was taking about 16mg daily. I started taking more towards the end of my pregnancy, more like 24mg. I also had kidney stones, and hemorrhoids. I delivered successfully on March 17, 2015. She also showed no signs of withdrawal. I have breastfed the whole time. She is 1 years old. It is now time to start weaning off breast milk. I am currently taking 16mg daily. I am a little worried since it's twice the amount I was taking with the my baby in 2010. I will let u know the turn out
Sincerely,
Elizabeth

Hi! I was wondering if I could ask you some questions? I'm currently on 8mg Subutex daily and breastfeeding but only for comfort. I'm so scared of stopping but my LO is gaining lots of weight and I think it's because I'm BF and formula feeding. I hVe low milk supply is why I don't just BF. I'm so worried about stopping and her having withdrawal symptoms. I was on it during pregnancy and she had no detox symptoms leaving the hospital but I was on 6mg. How did you stop BF? Weaning down yourself or weaning the amount of breastmilk your baby got? Thank you so much!

Your baby will be fine. Especially since your not strictly breastfeading. My baby will be 13 months and is almost done she is down two 3 Oz of breastmilk a day mixed with whole milk. With my last baby she was not weaned off breastmilk and was fine. So you pretty much are already weaning. When ur ready to stop just go for it she will be fine.

Thank you so much! That helps put me at ease a little. I hate to stop breastfeeding but her weight gain is through the roof! I also think she has tummy issues and we are in the process of getting it checked out. I would have hated adding another issue on top of that. I see so much contradicting stuff on the net so you never know! Anyways, Thank you again!!!!

I know this post is a bit old. However I have had a baby that needed treatment and displayed severe NAS symptoms along with recently (3 weeks ago in fact) my other daughter was born with no symptoms of W/d and we left the hospital 48 hours after birth. The best advice I can give anyone is to be prepared for the baby to have symptoms. Ask as many qualified people as possible about what the most extreme possibilities are. How long could baby be in the hospital, what treatment plan the hospital follows if they baby exhibits NAS symptoms, will baby be sent to a different hospital, will they completely detox baby or can they be weaned at home from morphine/methadone. There is no way to gauge by ultrasound or any other method if or to what extent NAS will present. Being mentally prepared for your LO to have to stay in the NICU for an extended period will help you cope of that happens. No one wants that however you want to ensure you're doing and making the best decisions for the baby.

Because 0.09 to 1.9 percent of your daily dose is what "could possibly" transfer to your baby through breast feeding!! That's nothing!! Like stated above, half of withdrawal is mental. Babies are that far ahead bc they aren't waiting for the symptoms. Research says: women that are stable, not using street drugs or abusing rx drugs have very little chance of having a baby go through withdrawal at all. Breast feeding is one of the best things you can do for your child. Please don't rant on when you don't have any idea what you're talking about. Do a little research before criticizing women that are only trying to do what's best for their baby!!

Savannah0925 I am just curious how everything worked out for you and the baby. I know this post is over a year old, I justt brought my son home from the hospital. He was born 8 days ago. He was kept for 4 extra days and all signs and symptoms got better and have almost completely disappeared. I am breast feeding only by pumping and I am supplementing with formula , as I am not producing milk. So I am just curious how the breast feeding went for you and if the baby had any problems when you stopped breast feeding?

Does anyone know if it can affect the AMOUNT of breastmilk? I am breastfeeding my 6 week old and on Subutex. He's gaining weight and the Dr isn't worried but because I'm exclusively breastfeeding I'm worried it could be low. I've looked everywhere with no luck for answers.
