Health experts and dermatologists say that many people are mistaken and have little knowledge about the sun protecting factors. They report that many people don’t know the difference between a "sunscreen" and a "sunblock". This ignorance may be fatal and efforts should be made to educate people about the proper behavior in the sun.

Most of the sun worshipers know that daily exposure to UV rays lead to skin wrinkles, skin burns and skin cancers but many of them get one thing wrong. They believe that the higher number of the sunscreen factor, the less chances of the damage. However, this is wrong. The higher SPF number doesn’t necessarily give you more protection; it is only protecting you for a longer period of time.

There are other important facts many people tend to misunderstand. They think that skin cancer develops mainly on the nose and shoulders but the thing is that it could also occur in the eyes. What many women don’t know is that birth control pills make them more sensitive to sun exposure as well as other drugs.

Scientists suggest looking for ingredients in the sunscreens when buying them. Sun-blockers that contain titanium dioxide or zinc oxide physically deflect harmful rays and should be a priority when buying such products because it is ingredients that block the negative rays.
Besides choosing a proper sun-blocker, it is also important to stay away from the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and to always wear protective clothing and a hat when going out into the sun.
