my 3yr old daugther according to x-rays has huge adenoids. sometimes at night she had difficulty breathing. on two occasions she stop breathing momentarily.
for about a month now she has been breathing normally without surgerry.
is this surgery still necessary? what are thye risk if i dont allow surgery? and is there another alternative to surgery to remove the adenoids?

I hope I'm not writing too late. My daughter had adenoidectomy when she was 3 y/o. She had problems breathing, sleeping and plenty of obstructive bronchitis before that. The surgery is a routine thing, there is no bleeding and almost no recovery period, because the adenoid is located very high in the throath and doesn't make it difficult to swallow. Katarina's surgery lasted for about 15 minutes, and she spent about 1 hour at the IC unit untill she was completely awake. When they brought her back to the room, she was jumping and runing around. She was released the same day. She is completely different child now. Less illnesses and less problems. If your child suffers a lot, please let the doctors remove the adenoids. It will be much easier for your daughter and for you. If you think that things are going for better, you can wait for some time and then decide, just don't let your fear decide for you. When adenoids proliferate, there is almost no chance for them to become smaller. Large adenoids will always be a problem to your child, she will be nervous and sleepy.
