Hello , I was searching on the web and found your question , It seems like symbicort doesn't cause weight gaining or appetite increasing ..
while you used other med before you was still find some difficulties .. when you breathe better every thing else gets better ..
any way .. I have the same problem .. but I guess because I'm using other meds.

Unlikely from symbicort because steroid level is low and concetrated in the lungs....Prednisone packs on the pounds!!!

How in the world can you say that? Do you know this person? They could be a tri- athlete in training, when a person gains weight after starting a new medication it is usually a result from the medication. A person rarely starts a medication that helps them breath better and stops being as active as they were before, Gates never mentioned a change in his/her activity level. I take Symbacort and do not have that problem I do have dry mouth and use a special mouth rinse to counteract that side effect. But when I was on Alvesco I did have an increased appetite and irritability, body aches and pain and consistently had to listened to my doctor tell me that Alvesco can not get into my system and cause these effects. Even though the manufacturer posted these as real and possible side effects on their web site. I could not take the medication and stopped, that ended me in the emergency room with severe asthma symptoms. I have read that people have had both an increased appetite and a loss of appetite all of us are made up differently and react differently to each and every medication. Every thing gets into your system one way or another if I was to take Alvcesco and then be tested for steroids I would not pass that test because our bodies are filters and everything is filtered through it before absorbed or released. That isn't brain surgery my disbelief is that doctors can actually believe that it is possible for any drug to stay contained to and individual organ without any effect on the rest of the body. That is just logic, and they can have PHDs and titles from NY to LA and still makes no sense. Marijuana doesn't stay in your lungs alone as a matter of fact it can be easily and readily found in your urine and blood? How come cocaine that is taken nasally can be found in the athletes blood? ( I have done drug testing and wish these Dr. would look at the logic of the results from a simple drug test) There is no miracle drug that has no side effects what so ever and with the decreased of immune function as well as the adverse effects some of these drugs have we are still kind of in the dark ages with these drugs, one would think by this day and age a non steroidal, non immune destroying effective medication would be available for us that suffer from lung diseases(asthma, COPD, ect...) All you can do is find the medication that works best and is most tolerable for you and that is what I have done with Symbacort it is much more tolerable for me. And if your doctor wont listen or work with you then you should find another doctor it is your body and the bottom line is that you have all the control over what you will or will not do with your body, some of these doctors think they are gods. They are not far from it actually. There are some very good but very expensive holistic medications out there check your health food stores and research them as well. A lung condition should not be the end of ones quality of life either from the disease or from the side effects from the medication.

I have been on symbicort only a short time and I have noticed some weight gain. I like the medicine, but don't want or need weight gain. I also have chronic fibromyalgia and it's hard to do much exercise.

hello, i have been taking symbicort for about two years now and I have noticed a tremendous weight gain and an appetite increase since taking it. In addition, I have been working out in both the morning and evenings, running five miles both times to and I haven't seen a drop in weight but I do notice more definition in my back and legs. I feel that the symbicort is causing me to keep the weight on and thats why I came on here because before i took symbicort, i have always been much less weight and i noticed there is a hugeeee difference and the only thing different is symbicort. i am going to stop using it even though it does seem to help, it is not worth the weight gain. thanks for the post.

Hello......very interesting to read. Up until approx. 8 months ago I was taken off ventolin and pulmicort , replaced with symbicort. I am very weight conscious and work out regularly (sometimes more than I should). I have never been overweight at all. I have gained up to 5kgs, and with all the exercises I do as per usual, I just cant seem to lose it. So.... going over my diet etc nothing has changed.....infact my exercises have increased, in frustration....to no avail. I was feeling a little "tight" and went to take my symbicort (as I do everyday) and realized this is the one change in my oral taking, that I didn't even look at. So from now I will discontinue for a week or so and see what happens. If this is the case then back to my ventolin and pulmicort. Also have experienced sore throats (which I have mentioned to the doctor, not knowing why) Tests done and have all come back clear, but sore throats are still there... sometimes I think that some doctors just prescribe things just because.....not because they know but because they are there to prescribe......watch this space

I agree 100%!!!!!! Not all people are allergic to peanuts!!!! so not all people have side effects of symbicort!!!!!! I too am very conscientious of what I eat and my exercise regime is up there....more so now, not knowing what has changed .... I have never been overweight, but to me am (ok to other people I'm still not, but it's what I feel comfortable at and it's not an unhealthy weight.) The only thing I realized(tonight) I hadn't looked at other than my diet (which is very healthy....low in carbs and fat etc)is the change in medication, from ventolin and pulmicort to symbicort. I have noticed the gradual weight gain, (up to 5kg's now) without any change in diet or exercise (which has increased now the last few months)Realizing it may be the change of medications, I, like you, searched online to find "answers" or similarities. Very interesting read......will discontinue this medication (not advised without advice) but not all doctors are right......watch this space (two weeks)

No don't have to wait two weeks......5 days ago gave up symbicort, bloating has completely gone (have been bloated for the past 8months) and have lost 2 kgs already with no change in diet or exercise!!!!!!!!! So conclusion......Yes I do believe symbicort was t he cause of weight gain, will never use it again and have gone back to ventolin and pulmicort.

I have been so shocked to read these posts. I started to look into the effects of corticosteroids when my mother was diagnosed with the need for a hip replacement. I have had asthma since the age of 5 and it has been controlled with the use of inhalers. Since the age of 12 (incidentally the same time I started to gain weight). In 2002 I was prescribed Symbicort and ever since then my weight slowly crept up year on year. I have stopped taking Symbicort and within four days I've lost 4lbs without changing my diet and like one of the other contributors I feel less bloated. I am going to try a local "salt cave" this week (anyone else tried one of these?) as an alternative way of keeping my airways open.

I started symbocort 3 months ago. For the past yr I've also used Spiriva. No weight gain until I combined the 2. I've gained 10 poiunds in 3 months with exactly the same routine for years. So yes I believe symbicort makes you gain weight. My appetite has not changed and the frequency of meals have not changed. Most of the added weight is in my abdomin which was already too big. I'm 63 so there are aches and pains already in place but wondering if my lungs are growing too big for my chest cavity. I've never heard of this but I'm definitely expressing this to my doctor on my next visit. I'm wondering why I'm taking 2 meds. Doctor says Spirivao is for maintenance.
