Just because you did not gain any weight does not mean it is not a side effect. Meds affect different people in different ways. It is a side effect as it affects many people in this way.

I work it 6 days a week and clean eating 90% of the time and have gained 10lbs and can't seem to lose. I don't feel like my appetite is majorly increased but my weight weight is. It's like everything I eat my body holds on to since this. It doesn't make sense but my face thighs and stomach just keep adding inches.

That's exactly what I'm experiencing. I started taking Symbicort about 2 months ago and I've gained at least 10 pounds in my stomach area and I have not changed my eating habits one bit. Don't know what to do. I had been on theodur and Dulera for last few years and he took me off theodur. Switched to Symbicort because my insurance won't cover any asthma inhalers and AstraZeneca a great prescription discount plan. This weight gain is killing me especially now that summer is here.

I have COPD & currently take Symbicort. I have taken different meds like Advair, several different  inhalers like pro air, ventalin and Xiobcan ( spelled wrong ), and I have a nebulizer which uses albuterol. I am 49.  I was diagnosed 3 years ago.  I had already quit smoking.

I have been the same size since I was 15. My weight was 118lb - 122lb.  Today, I weigh 157lbs.  Yes, it is bc of the medicines.  All of the them can make you gain weight.  The nebulizer can cause fluid retention.  Don't listen to anyone that tells you they don't cause weight gain. They do.  They also will give you medicine induced pre diabetes or diabetes.   Then you will be diagnosed with high cholesterol and probably some kind of pulmonary problem, as, this medicine will harden the right side of your heart.  Dead bones is a possibility too.

As if the weight gain, isn't depressing enough, right.

As the good Dr. said, use it only when necessary. I have found  Nutrition & Exercise are very important to my health, there is a direct correlation between them and my ability to breath easily.

I was born with bronchial asthma. All asthma meds have bad side effects. Steroids will make you gain weight, increase water retention , increase appetite, cause cataracts, and diabetes. Advair HFA is the safest , but expensive and also has side effects so be cautious and never exceed 250 mg dose. Being a vegan or semi vegan helps. Eat organic fresh fruits , vegies , healthy protein smoothies, drink plenty of good PH water, and take magnesium for your lungs. Best place to live is on an Island and by coastal beaches where you can breathe pure fresh air. Sea salt water and iodine helps my lungs and I breathe better and helps get rid of steroid toxins , free radicals , allergies and body inflammation. Swimming and walking helps me the most. God bless and take care.

I gained 40 pounds mostly in the belly. I too had a hard time breathing after stopping using the inhaler. It got better everyday with breathing exercises. I've now lost 20 of it after 3/months, and am breathing better. Try to walk, and H2O has oxygen.

I thought I was crazy. I only used it a few times in the past week and already I feel extremely bloated and I AM 5 pounds heavier.

I've been working out like crazy! And I've barely eaten anything. This is crazy.

I just started using Symbicort this week and last and not even every day. I've already gained 5 pounds and that's not using it regularly and only one puff, not two.

I've been working out like crazy and not eating much. This is crazy.

My husband said that it contains steroids and anything that contains steroids is going to make you gain weight. Is that true??? I can't lose the extra weight.

Hello I'm a 65 y/o male who is still pretty active. Since starting on Symbicort about 3 months ago, I've noticed a weight gain of some 20 plus pounds. Even though I took sick a few days and didn't eat much, the weight stayed. The result was I went from a comfy 188 lbs to,,, right now.. 210 lbs. I need to reduce about 25 of these pounds.

I also have been on symbicort for years, and I can tell you I was slim now I am overweight and have thin skin which bruises at the slightest touch. Symbicort also gives you a bloated abdomen. My doctor has tried different inhalers recently and almost straight away bloating disappears.
Please don't say Symbicort does not make you gain weight because it like all medication reacts differently with each patient.

have your doctor check your thyroid levels and your folate level.

I'm sure that for some people symbicort does cause weight gain. It is in the leaflet of side effects. It is a little difficult and problematic to say it doesn't cause weight gain when it's in the maker's literature. In my case, I was on it for about 15 years. In that time my weight went from 130 lbs to 310 lbs. I discontinued it 2 years ago and have lost 80 lbs. The dietary change I made was to add fat back into my diet (doctors kept saying cut out fat). I added extra virgin olive oil, and very rarely butter. I always ate lots of vegetables and fruit and still do.

For those who are losing hair, there are other causes such as low thyroid and/or low folate.
