Hi, went to a doctor about my muscle twitching, he examined me and said that I don’t have any symptoms that could indicate to some disorder. I was disappointed that he gave up so quickly, so I asked around myself. I heard that muscle twitching could be caused by low intracellular magnesium level. How can I test my Mg level?

Hi, I have a low intracellular magnesium level too, and it causes many troubles in my muscles. I did a blood test that confirmed this condition, but for many people a regular blood test wasn’t enough to uncover the low level of magnesium. This is because magnesium major role is in the cells, so the blood, plasma and serum can’t show us the whole picture of our optimal Mg level. This is why you can do a test for intracellular magnesium level. It is not a simple blood test, it is much more complicated, and you can hardly find a doctor who will be willing to do it for you. The red blood cell tests are just not sensitive enough. But when you start taking magnesium, be careful not to exaggerate. One of the overdose side effects is laxative effect.
