I remember seeing that "so unattractive" thread but I didn't pay much attention to it.
Don't ever let anything anyone says to you on the internet hurt you. The anonymity of the internet allows people to say things they would never say in person. There are a lot of people who say very hurtful things out of ignorance or for pleasure, or maybe just because they don't agree with you and are too ignorant to phrase their position properly. And then there are some who simply don't think anyone has any right to an opinion that isn't the same as theirs.

I read the post when it first appeared and decided not to even try to answer the question. That's why I didn't see all the answers.
I think you said about all anyone could say, attempting to help the person. There is certainly no way you can answer the question objectively. I think the others are just looking for a fight. Don't let yourself get sucked into an argument. It's not worth the trouble. Some people live for the chance to do that and they're good at it. Don't waste your energy on them, you have better things to do by answering a question for someone who needs the help.
