The thing you feel in your throat is definitely anxiety or stress. I had it as well. I didn’t actually have the thumping feeling, what I had was a lump in the throat (or a feeling of lump). This lump would be more apparent and more annoying later in the evenings when I was tired and stressed because I had to work at the evenings too. I was very dissatisfied and always edgy due to the large amounts of work I had to do daily. Sometimes, the lump would make me experience breathing problems but I had no problems eating. It would disappear in the morning when I would wake up but show up again later during the day or in the evening. It would even cause headaches sometimes, but this could have be psychological due to the presence of lump and tiredness and stress (or whatever).

I went to see a GP, she didn’t find anything, checked my thyroid, nothing there as well. She sent me to ENT to check my throat and stuff, nothing these as well but both doctors mentioned stress. I didn’t believe it but then one night I sat at my computer and did some research on my own and found out that it was actually stress that caused the lump.

The sensation of lump is caused by a spasm in the cricopharyngeus muscle (never heard of it but ok). Anyway, I had the lump for about two months and it went away on its own, I didn’t even noticed it was gone.
