I had a total thyroidectomy sixteen days ago because of a benign lump that had wrapped itself around my thyroid gland, my larynx and esophagus. So far I find it hard to swallow unless I stretch my neck out straight otherwise swallowing feels like a hard clunk and for someone who really enjoys their food, it is putting me off eating and the food has to be really soft. I am pleased that my surgeon kept the scar to three inches, but one side seems to be healing faster than the other and there is a hard lumpiness above the scar line. Can anyone else identify with all of this? especially the swallowing.

I had a total thyroidectomy 10 days ago and while my swallowing has gotten much better, I have a related strange effect going on. If I am upright or mobile for any length of time, it feels like there is a large lump pushing into my throat. It doesn't effect swallowing per se, but it does cause me to be unable to focus my eyes and feels like I am going to black out. When I lay down for a bit it is fine and I feel great but as soon as I get up it happens again. I have a follow up appt in the morning to see what the deal is.
I too have the hard lumpiness above the scar line with very little noticeable "scar". I have heard massaging the area is supposed to help, but mine is still too sensitive.
