I am a 27 year old Female who recently had a total thyroidectomy on February 24,2014 at MCG in Augusta,Georgia. I had non cancerous nodules on booths side of my thyroid the size of golf ball. The nodules made it hard to breathe and a few other complications. My voice is still harsh and difficulty swallowing. The stiffness and swelling is still a bother but I can honestly say the wound itself is not really sore on the outside. My breast are very sore and have not yet had a menstrual cycle. My mood swings, tingling, and cramps are starting to get under controlled with the help of Calcium pills(500 mg plus vitamin) and Levothyroxine(100mg). Constipation was an issue the first week due to the amount of pain medication I was prescribed but with the help of a daily stool softer that is under controlled as well. Its only been 8 days since the procedure but every days it gets easier and less painful. I sometimes feel lonely or sad for no reason even catch headaches. The fact of having to take medicines for the rest of my life have me worried. Is there a long term effect? I've also been told that its impossible to have kids after a total thyroidectomy; is this true? Thanks for listening.
