I'm scheduled for tvt surgery next month. After reading several forums on the subject, I am scared to death!
Has anyone had a good experience???
My ob/gyn is performing the surgery and has performed many in the past. He doesn't seem very worried.
I trust him completely, but then again. . .

Will I ever be able to lift any kind of weight at all????

Also, how does the surgery affect your sex life?
(my husband is really interested. lol)

Thanks!

I had TVT surgery in November 2006 and have not looked back since. It was the best decision I every made and I only wonder why I waited so many years to have it done. I was 59 at the time, and had no pain at all from day one. I was not impressed with the catheter, but that only lasted 48 hours...not painful, just uncomfortable. My Doctor advised against intercourse for approx. 4 weeks and no heavy lifting for approx. the same time. I live alone and was more than able enough to take care of myself.
Don't be afraid at all about it. It has literally given me back my life. I had it done on a Friday and was back to work on Wednesday. No real down time involved and I mean it when I say that it was painless. I had a spinal and was awake during it. Best way to go....
Good Luck....and don't fret.

I too am scheduled for TVT surgery on July 14th. Ozziesmama, thank you for your reply. It calmed me alot.

Booboosmama, how was your experience? My husband and I are also wondering how this will change (or better) our sex life. I know it's a very personal subject but it would help to know.

I had TVT seven weeks ago. I am 49. The surgery was quick and I did not need a catheter and was able to go home that afternoon. I bled for about 5 days and my first period following lasted longer than normal; 7 days. I have had little pain and it seems to be successful 98% of the time. I followed the doctor's advice and took it easy but I am active and lift weights so it was difficult. I walked from after the first week and used the treadmill and lifted only light weights for my upper body. I tried the hula hoop at six weeks and I started bleeding; I believe it was an x-tra period rather than tearing. I did lose a stitch. During the first 4 weeks, if I pushed myself too hard, my lower abdomen felt tight and a wee bit uncomfortable. After resting, I felt normal again. I'm hoping that all of this will clear up in the next month or so. I have resumed normal exercise except heavy weights. If anyone has any experience with weightlifting issues, please let me know.

Hi, It's good to hear that someone active like me has done the surgery. I had it done in September, which is now about 31/2 month ago, and I didn't have any complications. I lift too and it's so hard not to lift to heavy and not to squat. I have started 6 week after surgery with light excersise like yoga and Pilates. After 9 weeks I went back to see surgeon and she said, my pelvic muscles are still to weak, so she recommend physio which I did now for 4 weeks. I started body attack 2 weeks ago and couldn't believe that I didn't leak and I didn't need a " nappy" I nearly cried.then next day I went to pump but only lifted light weights . And this week I went to attack and pump again, but I think I reared something, since attacke I have a stabbing pain, not sure if I can feel that I am ovulating( which I can feel most of the time ) but now I am scare if I have torn something , I hope not, bit that's why I googled it and came onto this side . Not sure if it takes my comment, as I normally don't leave comments . Anyway, would be great to hear more of you My email is _[removed]_ Thanks Nat

Hi / I guess you have had surgery by now and hope its gone well and been successful so Far. I had my TvT done early November and can only confirm that all the bad blogs are true in my case. Forget sex life - i experience day on day relentless groin and leg pain even at 8 wks post surgery - I cannot bend without pain to put underwear or socks on/ my mobility has been shattered as the hip pain on one side is akin to needing hip surgery and I cannot walk without a limp . My surgeon will not allow me back to clinic and has twice advised me to attend local A and E for treatment and my post surgery review is scheduled at 13 weeks post surgery! i live on a diet of pain relief and in the meantime and have been reduced to not being able to undertake any physical activity. I would be interested in hearing from you about your experience to date. Iv been keeping a day diary so I can give it the surgeon. Please would any other readers share their experiences ,

I am curious since I see you wrote this post over a year ago. How did the TVT go, and are you lifting weights again? If so. how heavy?
thanks.

I wanted to ask you the same question I asked ozziesmama. Were you able to resume lifting heavy weights. if so how long was it before you could do that? I am scheduled for a TVT, but am not sure I want to go through with it if it means I will not be able to deadllift and squat heavy again or for too long of a time. Thanks for your input.
