22 days ago I fell onto my right hand. By day 8 the swelling and bruising were gone, but significant pain remained. On day 10 my doctor told me that she suspected a scaphoid fracture and sent me for x-rays (2 views only) which were negative. Prior to the x-rays I had never even heard the phrase "scaphoid fracture", but afterward I began to do a bit of research and learned that this fracture often doesn't show up in the initial x-rays, although my initial ones were done so late in the game that I'm not sure the situation is the same as those I'm reading about.

Regardless, today is day 22, I'm still experiencing snuffbox tenderness (although not 100% of the time, curiously enough), pain at the base of my thumb, a marked decrease in the range of motion of that wrist and significant pain when gripping things (turning a doorknob, for example, is quite painful), and a generalized aching in the wrist/hand. My question, then, is at what point do I say to myself "no, this has gone on too long - there must be something wrong here" and seek a second opinion? I recognize that if my wrist/thumb is simply sprained it may feel the same as a fracture, but when do I begin to worry that things aren't healing as they should?

Thanks in advance for any opinions/advice.
