Aimee, lay on your bed, or sit in a comfortable position and practice deep breathing, as much as you can, I know it may hurt; inhale deep into your diaphragm. Find out what is bothering you and try to make some life changes to eliminate your cause of stress. Find a mentaur, someone who you can talk to without being judged, a good listener. Sometimes a best friend is the answer, somene who makes you laugh. I hope you were able to easy your anxiety from when you posted 4 years ago!

Hi guys! My name is Sara and I'm 13. I have chest pains an it tightens to where it feels like someone I sitting on me, to the point where I'm on the floor screaming, but it just keeps getting worse, and I haven't talked to my parents about yet, but I'm sure they will say it's probably nothing, but I also recently quit smoking weed, and everything

Hi, Everyone. Have read all comments about shortness of breath and i am dealing with the same thing. I traveled to urgent care 3 times and i got the same thing over and over again. She told me it starts if you keep thinking about your situation and that you have to control your breathing by not thinking about. To me it kind of works but when i have shortness of breath it scares me so bad. I try my hardest to get over this feeling but its not that easy. The feeling is normal and your not alone. My mom went through it 6years ago and i watched her cry day after day but nothing has happened to her and she is over this feeling and she encourages everyday. Its really a mind thing and you have to start back taking over your life. Im 18 years old and it shocks me to see younger people than me go through the same thing im going through. But the biggest part of it all is your frightened and it is really scary.

I just want to update this post as I was suddenly reminded that it exist.

My panic attacks feel like another lifetime away. I haven't had any for years and any anxiety I still have is incredibly manageable. I've become an entirely different person, with a lot of work. I'm so much more resilient now. THERE IS HOPE!!

My advice now is as follows, whether your situation is similar to mine or not:

1) GET CHECKED FOR FOOD/ENVIRONMENTAL ALLERGIES. No kidding. I found out I was allergic to like, 10 things. Taking them out of my diet helped A LOT. A tight chest and anxiety were part of my symptoms and I suspect a large part of where the panic attacks were coming from.

2) GET A GOOD THERAPIST. If you don't feel like they're challenging you, ditch them. If your own emotions and behavioral and thought patterns have anything to do with your panic attacks, I can almost guarantee that it has something to do with something YOU DONT WANT TO DEAL WITH. I went through YEARS of intensive therapy. It was the hardest and most rewarding thing I've ever done.

3) READ A BOOK BY BRENE BROWN. I would suggest "The Gifts of Imperfection". Like before, it sounds hokey but the content is LIFE CHANGING. Her practices, in addition to a few others, allow me to maintain a sense of wellbeing, improve my relationships, completely changed how I think of myself and what I'm willing to ask for in life. Her work changed my life, in addition to my therapist.

Have hope. Sometimes it seems easier to stop living, but you can do this, and life can be better than you ever imagined.
"I'm living proof", I guess I can say that now. :)

I can so relate with the post here. I see an acupuncturist which I feel saved me from the misery I was going through. I went to doctors who all knew it was anxiety but was reluctant to say so. After a few weeks of seeing the acupuncturist i was back to myself again. Since then I do go back on occasion when I am feeling the anxiety for a maintenance. I have also found the herb "Motherwort" recently that does wonderful things for anxiety, heart, palpitations, etc. I wish I had found this earlier. I get the upper chest pain and congestion so I am hoping it will help. Thank everyone for sharing your stories.
