Hi! This is a reflex, which is involuntary reflex of the nervous system. Consequence is slowing down of the heart beat, also called bradycardia. At the same time this affects the nerves and also blood vessels in the legs, which permits vessels to dilate, meaning widen. The result of this action is less blood put out by the heart and consequently drop of blood pressure, which also means that blood is circulating into the legs and not the head. This can lead to fainting (brain gets less oxygen because of lower blood pressure).
