It's been over a year ago (December 2012) since I had my hemorrhoid surgery. First I developed anal stenosis and the doctor couldn't even examine me with his little finger without me crying out in pain. I spent the summer getting 3 anal dilations under anesthesia and 2 colonoscopies. It's still not right. I still have to take supplements to make sure the BM is very soft. It feels like only the upper muscles do any work when the BM is firmer and I have an uncontrollable need to strain. So now I get to have a "voiding proctogram", which is basically where I get to have a BM while several people watch on a monitor. They stuff me full of barium and use some kind of xray to watch it go through. Just when I think I've been humiliated enough by dropping my pants over and over for exams, now I get to poop for an audience. Has anyone on this board had this test? It sounds awful. My problems are much better than they were a year ago, but I sure would like to be normal again (or closer to it) and not worry every morning if everything will come out okay.

Apparently, this is a pretty rare test for people who have had hemorrhoid surgery.  That's good because it means most haven't had the complications I have.  I know I wish I didn't. For anyone in the future who might need it, this test wasn't all that bad.  It wasn't painful and it didn't take long at all.  And they gave me copies of the pictures they took of me sitting on the "toilet" passing the barium.

Next week I have more tests to see if my muscles are not working properly or if the whole thing is in my head.  I don't know which to hope for.
