I got my Mirena out yesterday on the first day of my menstral cycle and I already feel like a whole new woman. I had some bad cramps while getting it out, but I already feel different. My tummy even looks a little smaller this morning.

I had the Mirena inserted 6wks after having my second child. I never really shed any of the weight I gained while pregnant and I figured that the Fat neck I had was a result of the weight, but after taking it our to try for a third child, I noticed my weight began to fall off. I lost 28lbs. in 3mos with out trying. I didn't crave sweets as much so that helped. After having my 3rd child I opted for the Mirena again. Again, after losing weight for the first six weeks, I gained the pregnancy weight back and have struggled to shed it. My Dr. then noticed that I might have a goiter, I assumed I just had a fat neck, my thyroid levels are all normal, but there is definately a goiter as confirmed by an ultra sound. I have also had a lot of colored discharge, and had a few bacterial infections that my OB swears is in no way related to the Mirena. All the research I've done that lists the side effects of the Mirena end with the words "This is not a full list of side effects. To learn more, speak to your physician". After reading about everyone elses experiances and being fed up with the weight, the fat neck, the mood swings and the acne, I pulled the damn thing out myself! hopefully I will notice a difference soon.

I will be the first to type on this link. I have had my Mirena in for 3 weeks and I am getting it taken out. The Cramps were horrible often ending in the fetal position. I got past those. The mood swings were bareable my boyfriend didnt even really see a difference. The weight gain is the problem. Once I realized I couldnt zip up my pants I knew something was wrong. I went and bought the next size up 11's and those barely fit. I didnt even need to weigh myself I just looked in the miror and knew. I dont ever weigh myself because muscle weighs more then fat and I very athletic but this is just ridiculous. And now I am getting depressed when I look in the mirror. This is really bad when you wait tables and bartend!! People are always looking at you. I am getting this taken out Monday and we will see how hard it is to get these pounds reversed. I wish I would have seen this site prior to getting this placed. Now you know.
BTW I have 2 friends that got this and have had no problems but if you have gained weight on the pill it will happen with this too.

Doctors are not always right !!! Have you even googled this topic before making that comment. If you had you would have found hundreds of women struggling with weight gains after the mirena is inserted. There are also loads still struggling to shift it months after it was removed. Myself included.

mirena insertion included a period that lasted everyday for 12months since having mirena put in. Weight gain , oily skin pimples on back , legs ,neck and face ( i usually have great skin) moodiness , depression , pain in womb , lower back and in around lower abdo!!..blood clots , low sex drive, tiredness, laziness, bloated 24/7 , low immune system and bad headachesmigraines! All since insertion off mirena..im 23 years old and due to mirena burrying itself into my womb it is now considered to be a "complicated mirena" which no normal docter will touch. I need surgery to get it removed :( i am on a waiting list since the end of last year. 3 weeks from now and i am finally getting it out. I am so scared because i have a feeling i will be one of those poor woman who will experience the mirena crash :( . Iam normally healthy apart from endimitriosis and ibs..work out 6days aweek ..dont drink , smoke or take drugs..i have afternoon beach walks with my fiance and i eat very healthy and drink nothing but water and cordial..! Since mirena insertion i have gained 15kgs and it wont drop its alittle disheartening when you work out so much and watch your weight spiral up!!

I'm having my mirena removed next week, I have had it for nearly 3 years and while there are benefits with it the negatives far outweigh them. I would have to say over the last 3 years I have put on nearly 40kgs and I am 26 and my acne is like that of a 13 year old. I have also had other health issues that arose last time I had a mirena, about 5 years ago but are now more severe. The doctor doesn't believe the iud is the cause but it is the only link. My only worry is the agonizing cramping, and dizzy spells that come every month without the mirena. :(

Hi,

I had the Mirena fitted back in March '12 and put on a lot of weight but since July I have been eating healthily and taking regular exercise and have been losing a steady 2 lbs a week so I think it is possible to lose weight after you have had one fitted.  I also find if I restrict my intake of carbs I don't get a bloated stomach.

I had the depo for years and loved it. Unfortunately they say that it causes bone loss and osteoporosis. :0( I have gained weight on the Mirena too. It's coming out soon, but I'm nervous about all of the posts about excessive bleeding.

Hello - i had the Mirena placed in April. I have had all the side effects. The worst for me is the weight gain. I went to the doctor to get it removed and she said....oh well first let's test your thyroid because there are few people who have used Mirena and have side effects. Then of course she said if its not the thyroid it is probably depression. But if after the results of the thyroid test come back she will take it out of I don't want to try it any longer. Has anyone else had that experience??? I've always been overweight...even as a kid. But before Mirena, I was pregnant and had to have a surgical termination because of a partial miscarriage and while I was under anesthesia they placed the Mirena. The doctor said perhaps I am actually just depressed about that.... I took the combined pill once when I was in my late teens and I gained weight. After that I swear to betsy that I used condoms until I met my husband. Now I tried another birth control method...and I have blown up like a balloon. It's so frustrating.

Hi everyone

I know there is a lot of people wondering if the IUD is the cause of all their issues. I am one of them too! However I have not been able to find  person who comes back after the got the IUD removed and how their side effects are doing. So, I am going to post this and then come back, but first here is my IUD story.

I got my IUD put in Oct 2007 two months after my baby was born. SO, I have had my IUD for over 5 years, I never knew I single bad thing about the IUD until I was researching if it was going to be painful to remove it, then I cam across all these stories about side effects.. Well Before I had the IUD I lost pretty much all my baby weight, and was into my jeans again! Then I got the Iud and started to gain weight, the thought of it being my IUD never ever crossed my mind I thought ok it is because I stopped breast feeding and my baby is now sleeping all night so I am not getting up every two hours..

So, I had a year off and decided to go on a diet. I did I went on weight watchers, and then started walking over 4 miles plus an hour work out to Jillian michaels dvd's. I lost 25 lbs and looked great. However, I went back to school and could not keep up with the working out. Then I gained all my weight back, I chalked it up to that I was stressed and eating too much and not working out. Every Christmas break I would start again and would lose 10lbs or so and then would stop and gain it all back.. Anyways this routine has been going on for over 5 years... September this year I quit smoking and thought I better work out and eat right because I dont want to gain anymore weight. So there started my journey of weightloss again.. However I gained 2lbs in one day and I was working out and eating right. I ended up on quitting because I was so depressed that I was gaining weight and I was trying so hard and it would just keep happening.

Now of course I know about the muscle weighs more than fat and ect.. I seriously have been obsessed with weightloss forever! I was skinny before so its not genetics, plus both parents of mine are smaller not fat at all.

All I want to get a crossed is that first I can lose weight with the IUD but I have to be perfect by that I mean working out 7 days aweek cardio and weigh lifting and walking. As for eating I would have fruit in the morning, and weight watchers soup and 7 crackers for lunch and then supper was meat, carbs (rice or potatoes) and veggies. That is it and I would lose weight. but if I ate lets say a bowl of cereal at night time I would either not lose weight or gain a pound and i am being totally serious!

Until all the stories of the weight gain with the IUD I believed because of these dieting yo yo's I have truly messed up my metabolism and I was screwed and I would in order to lose weight or be skinny again have to starve myself and workout like crazy. Dont get me wrong this could be the case I dont know yet. BUT next week I finally get my IUD out Hopefully... I will come back and let everyone know!

My side negative side effects right now include: weight gain or extremely difficult to lose weight (could be because of dieting in the past), mood swings (could be because I am a women), acne (its really bad didn't even have it this bad in highschool, I chalked it up to be because I got so lucky in high-school that I am paying for it now, or because I am fat..) memory loss (It has been getting worse, thinking I may develop Alzheimer's early, I am 27) Those are my three major problems..

Also, another thing, it has taken this long t get my IUD out because the string is all messed up inside of me and they didnt know where the IUD was but thankfully it is in the right place just the string is messed up.. SO that is why I said hopefully they will get it out next tuesday December the 11th. I have heard that people need surgery to get it out.. Little worried not for the surgery but to have this thing in longer...

Wish me luck and I will save this page and comeback tuesday and let you know if I actually go it out and then let you know about my side effects!
