Your negative attitude and judgment of others with medical conditions who struggle with weight appalls me. For shame.

i understand how you feel i have been suffering from hypothyroidism. i have goitor and i am not on any medication because my doctor thought i can control it by dieting because i am not over weight. i was on strict diet for 6 months and gained almost 15 lbs. after doing more test i come to find out my thyroid is enlarged and goitor has gotten bigger. i am having trouble swallowing and breathing sometimes and now my dr suggested i surgically remove my thyroid. seriously all this time without medication and now i need to get it surgically removed?? i am so pissed off.

I put myself on a 1200 calorie per day diet and did not lose weight. I was on hospital with a drip and did not lose weight. Its too easy to judge each other and all our bodies work completely different, I don't think the normal range is even normal for some people. I have increased my dose on my own and am finally losing some of the weight (10kgs) from Hashimotos. We are sensitive creatures, internally, and psychologically. People don't chose to be lazy, if your body is freezing and you can't move its a sign your medication is way too low.

I was diagnosed 2 years ago with hypo and my current dose is 100 mcg. I am 49 yrs old, 5'10'' and weigh 195 lbs.

I constantly work out and have a clean diet...

Here's a summary of last year: 20,000 crunches, 8000 push-ups and 14000 miles of brisk walking with some sprints...(and yes, the numbers are correct).

As far as the scale goes, it never changed its always been 195, but I lost the gut and my clothes fit much better.

If anyone has a clue how to get the weight down, I'm all ears because nothing I have tried has worked.

I know. I work so hard, and people are always telling me I dont work out enough. I've been a ballet dancer for many years, and people know how hard that work is. I never had a wieght problem until I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. Actually thats why I went to the doctor. I started gaining weight out of nowhere without changing diet. People dont understand that the hormones are very powerful!! I just started syntheroid. Really hoping it will help me.

I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism I am 6-4 245. I actually just graduated from college a few days ago and was diagnosed a few days after that great gift. My doctor says I should be down to around 215 200. But I work out and run 5 days out of the week watch my diet and have a reward day eat whatever. But I just don't know why I am not losing weight if I have hyper. Just some info would be great. Thanks ahead of time. God Bless.

I don't have any suggestion. But its nice to know that someone else has the problem. I should be 125 and weigh 160. Hardly eat anything and can not lose a pound. I am up for suggestions also.

Dear All:  I was on synthroid for some 10 years and then it just stopped working for me!  The symptoms of hypothyroidism worsened, although blood levels were still in the "norm".  My family doctor sent me to an endocrinologist, who put me on another medication, which apparently sent me hyper and made me permanently hungry.  However, my hair, nails, skin, mood, gastric problems, etc., etc. all went away.   I got nowhere trying to explaing that as the doctor reduced the level of medication, the symptoms returned and I was still permanently hungry.  I switched endocrinologists to one who listened, am now on tirosint!  It's like a miracle - I feel like me again.  Even my weight is coming off, slowly.  Plus the permanent hunger I felt on levoxyl (think I have remembered correctly), is now a thing of the past.

It still boggle my mind how one little hormone producing part of my body can wreak such havoc.

Exactly. I had a high metabolism all my life. However, my body went into early menopause and now I have hypothyroidism. I've never worked out as much as I do now...power walking twice a day for an hour each time, lifting weights and aerobic exercises daily. If I eat dinner, I gain a pound daily. If I skip dinner, I maintain and don't gain. So comments like, "Get off your lazy ass" truly irritate me because having this condition is very frustrating. Unless you're educated regarding the disease, please keep the ignorance to yourself.

I'm fifteen and I was just diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and Im on synthroid at the moment. My ideal weight is 130-140 and I'm stuck at 180-190. For the past two weeks I've been dieting and exercising regularly and I haven't dropped a pound. I'm not lazy by any means. I'm in marching band and I'm just tired of being called fat. What do I do?

You are normal, stop making excuses, I have been taking Synthroid for years and the reason I gain weight is because I eat too much!!!!Keep a food diary, you might be surprised at how much you eat. Also, stop blaming everything on your thyroid, sounds like a case of hypochondria !!!

i have been on Synthroide now for 11 years. At first it was only.05..I was put on 75 after 2 years . Then i was put on 88 for i would say 8. years .  A few months ago the doctor told me my Synthroid was too slow . I felt tired . I could not get up in the morning .I was very tired and no energy. She put me on 112 so since i take 112 i am less tired and my doctor told me i would loose the 32 pounds i gained. Well i did not loose a single ounc ebut gaine. She told me impossible to gain the weigth . She said the higher the dose the faster i would loose. Well i think something is wrong here . Cause i keep on putting weigth . I eat healthy. I excerise alot . I walk about 1 hour and a half eery day. Where is the probleme here. My doctor here or me .
