I first noticed the "flashing" and floaters in my right eye about 3 months ago. Of course I was terrified. I saw two eye specialists and they both adived me that I was experiencing Posterior Vitreous Detachment. Four weeks ago I saw stars and bright circles in my right eye. Turns out it is the same condition. First few months are critical since you can suffer a retinal detachment, which is serious and can lead to vision loss if not treated promptly. Otherwise, I've been advised that there is nothing that can be done and my vision should be OK. The flashing really scares me. That could go on for the rest of my life.... until I really do see the Angels! ;-)

I read with interest the various post on this subject. My experience was a curved light round the edge of my eye especially noticeable at night. I first noticed it when driving home and I was convinced there was a flashing light in the car in the periphery of my vision or a police car with a flashing light beside or behind the car. Initially it was quite dramatic and I had a full check up that night at hospital, no mini stroke, blood "spot on" no diabetis, no high blood pressure, no headache. Next day I went to my optician who did a very thorough check on the eye. They generally have the best and latest equipment to check the eye, and you dont need to wait for a specialist referal through your doctor. The optician suspected she might find a tear or a detatchment of the retina. After all her tests and inspections nothing was found. She said that it might be a prelude sign of either of these conditions occuring, and I am having the eye looked at every 3 months. It only occurs in one eye and when I dont think about it it "disappears" but then your eye and your brain can and do make anything disappear, like the edge of your glasses which are always in your field of view but your brain makes them disappear.I can make the lights appear by concentrating on them in a dark room, in effect looking for them, but day to day I dont see them at all now, except perhaps when I first go into a dark room or start to drive at night.I would be interested to hear from anyone who got a definite diagnosis and if my tests produce anything I will post it. At this stage the main effect appears to be how disconcerting it is when it first happens.

I just googled my "eye problems" I've been having the last couple of weeks, and got to this thread. So I'm sorry if it's an old thread and if reviving it is against the rules.
Anyway, In the corner of my right eye I see these light "patterns" (more like a fog) that turns very dark as soon as I realize they are there. After that the fog kind of changes forms and if I dont look around and just stare at one spot the darkness spreads and starts building up from underneath aswell as from the side.
I personally thought it was pretty cool for the first week but as time goes it doesnt get any better (actually the last couple of days I sometimes see small dots acting the same way all over the right eye) so I thought I'd look it up.
I believe this is something psychological because this just happened after I took a psychadelic research chemical known as 4-HO-MET. I'm actually quite used to hallucinogenic drugs and I've never had any sorts of eye problems after the drug has left the system.
To the people who "forgot" about them or somehow made it disappear, how did you do it? Relax and do something else?

I've been searching for so long for somebody to share this with and finally when I googled this topic I found all of you people who experience this "flashing light" in your eyes. A lot of you have seen doctors and specialists and they've come up with nothing wrong with your eyes or vision. Well, this is what I've been sharing with everybody I can, This light is your SOUL communicating with you. This is why we don't see the light when we don't think about it. We've all, I mean ALL OF HUMANITY has been temporarily mis-connected with our souls because we don't truly think about us being more than a physical, physically self conscience beings. Truly, we are eternally conscience beings, and when we allow ourselves an opportunity to "talk" to ourselves mentally, we will learn that we are more than just ordinary drones. Much more. If anybody is interested in sharing more ideas about this topic, or any topic that doesn't involve this world's way of living, please contact me at Peace, Love and Light to all life on earth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

not to frighten you but I had all the same symptoms and was just recently diagnosed with ocular melanoma or eye cancer.
About a year ago I started seeing gold flashes at the top of my vision in my right eye and before that black fly- like floaters. The cancer was found during a routine eye exam. I will be starting radiation in July and hopefully, the cancer will be stopped and I won't lose my eye.
Please make sure that you take any change to your vision seriously and not wait that extra year for an eye exam because nothing could possibly be wrong and it's all your imagination.
I hope this helps or at least enlightens you.

An ocular migraine would explain an aura of oscillating light in the peripheral vision, but not flashes of light. These migraines may or may not be accompanied with a headache. They begin much like oscillating lights in the periphery and then may spread to both eyes. Episodes typically last about 20 minutes. Darkness or rest is best following an episode.
I have had ocular migraines for about two years now, with maybe only 10 episodes in total. The only real downside is that they could occur while driving, which could be dangerous since vision is impaired.
Flashes specks of light similar to fireflies that last only brief seconds are entirely different than ocular migraines, though the causes may be similar (both unknown). I, too, have these flashing lights, and they become increasingly apparent when looking at a clear sky or a white background. As far as I know, they do not progress and are along the same lines as a floater: annoying, distracting and a waste of worry!

Wow. I've seen floaters and flashes for a long time. For thee longest time i thought i had brain cancer. When i was in third grade my teacher said if you see those you have cancer. I'm in 12th grade now and for SO long i thought i had a major problem and was to afraid to test my eyes. i went to the eye doctors and they said this was normal and i had the best eyesight he'd seen. So I'm guessing this is common.

I had the same - strong flash of lights most notably in the dark ( at a concert) - went to a retinologist as it could be a precurser to a detached retina. No other issues found...the light he said was due to pressure on the optic nerve....floaters are just pieces of the interior of the eye which have broken off...some due to age and shrinking of the eye....should settle down toward the bottom of the eye, although mine get stirred up with activity. So best to get eyes checked as could be many reasons ( diabetes as well) and keep watch and if nothing more, try to ignore!!!

Everything you said relates. When I look in the corner of my eyes they turn into shapes of color the top part also holds a lot of color. When I smoke weed I go into these colors and begin seeing shapes which can have a serious effect on my mind if I don't stay cool Ill freak out I don't know why this is happening the shapes are stronger and harder to ignore now and making me doubt my health big time. I'm not sure if there spirits or if somehow by looking into the corner of my eyes at these lights Ive screwed up my vision. I can also see them sometimes when looking straightforward at the bottom left and bottom right of my face. When I had smoked and was looking at the changing circles n squares with there colors the color n shapes could make me feel certain ways. Ether very positive or negative. If I thought negativity my robe looked like a floating evil ghost i could see evil faces which made me literally tweak out! Dark purple was by far the worse of my mood effects lowering my motor skills. My hearts been hurting and slowed down and sounds dangerously weak unless i focus on my breathing. Ive been also getting a lot of feelings in my head im scared by brain is messed up and and there's a cut in my heart i sometimes fear that i might die. I'm not sure if any of this this is true, it might just be my mind a spiritual matter or a health problem i just don't know.
Lastly when i was in this cycle of positive and negative (which was mostly negative) I saw this dark purple with faces on it no matter how i tried to view from a positive experience this dark purple completely destroyed me I felt like it was the devil just pure evil. When it came around my body began hurting intensely I was seeing and hearing things not to trippy but still enough to scare me. Nothing could remove this from my images even when i closed my eyes so i couldn't go to sleep. It just had the feeling of pure evil to it I really don't know what all these colors and patterns mean but they control my mind and body ether in a good or bad way. Sorry for the long post good luck to you in life sorry also for the gloom n doom and kinda mashed in writing. =) Peace and Love

I have had these flashes of light that can be considered pulsating sparks, and they move very slowly from the centre of my vision to either the right or left eye and I can barely see anything that is in front of me until they move out of my line of sight. As a matter of fact, one is just going away as I write this.
I have had eye examinations and there does not appear to be anything wrong with my vision. Apparently from what I have learned, this condition is called "Moors Lights" which is quite common. Also I have learned that it is the onset of a migraine headache, but rarely my flashes are accompanied by a headache. Migraines in my family are hereditary - my mom had them, my siblings get them and I believe my father used to have them (he is now deceased), but for me, I think I am the only one with this ocular condition.
To resolve the problems usually almost immediately, I take an ibuprofen tablet or two depending on the severity and within 15-20 minutes, the flashes are gone and my sight is restored to normal, and I have no headache.
If you are concerned about this condition, ask your doctor and he may refer you to an optician. If you are not concerned but they annoy you when they happen, then take a pain killer such as Tylenol, Aspirin or Ibuprofen and your problems will subside within minutes.
I only get about 3 or 4 of these a year, so I know my condition is not severe.

to anyone who's still on this forum thing, you've all got migraine auras, even if you don't feel any pain: migraines don't always come with headaches, that's just a usual symptom. these auras are not life threatening, but i know they're annoying as hell, especially when they keep happening and you feel like you're going crazy because no one you tell seems to understand what you're talking about. auras come in different shapes and sizes, so i'm 100% sure ALL of these are just that. i get them all the time, and i know how frustrating they can be. talk to your doctor about them, bring up auras and see what happens. i've been suffering from these flashing lights and shapes for a while now; i just had one today that turned into a massive headache (i get them with pain, yay!), and i had to miss school because i couldn't deal. so, yeah. doctor time. do it.
