I'm 65, 4 yrs ago was diagnosed with cervical cancer 3b. Went through chemo, radiotherapy and I was cleared of cancer cells. Lately I'm getting runny Poo like discharge that's about 50ml. Haven't seen my periods for over 8yrs...menopause. Dr's have done test and nothing concrete comes up. I'm in pain, what could be the reason for this?

Hello.
There are several possible causes for runny poo like discharge and pain after treatment for cervical cancer. Some of the most common causes include:
-
Infection: Infections of the urinary tract or reproductive system can cause discharge and pain. These infections can be caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi and may require medical treatment. But it is not likely in your case if tests are normal.
-
Radiation therapy: Radiation therapy can cause inflammation of the rectum and anus, leading to pain and discharge. This can also cause diarrhea, which may further exacerbate the symptoms.
-
Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy can damage the lining of the digestive tract, leading to diarrhea and discharge.
-
Surgical complications: Surgery to remove the cancerous tissue can cause damage to surrounding organs and tissues, leading to pain and discharge.
If your doctor think that is just a side effect of therapy, you can try some of these tips:
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, such as water, clear broths, and electrolyte solutions.
- Eat small, frequent meals that are low in fiber and fat. Avoid spicy and greasy foods.
- Consider taking over-the-counter anti-diarrheal medication, such as loperamide (Imodium), after consulting with your healthcare provider.
- Try probiotics, such as yogurt or supplements, which may help to restore the balance of healthy gut bacteria.
Hope you are better now.
