I have had a dull ache in the centre of my chest that comes and goes for more than a week. I also have in the same time developed a heart ahrythmia that gives me a period of double and then a missed beat. These bouts last up to a minute and happen frequently throughout the day ( and night). I have also lost around 3kg in the last week without changing my diet. I feel more tired than usual. I went to a hospital when this started and had tests and an examination be a cardiologist. He could find nothing wrong with my heart and all my blood tests were normal, apart from lower than normal hemoglobin and blood levels. The doctor said my heart was healthy and that the arhythmia was "benign" but the symptoms continue. The chest pain comes and goes and feels slightly better when I take a deep breath. Could it be something else? I don't smoke, drink, avoid sugar and gluten and am almost vegan on a low-fat diet. I am a male age 60, don't take any medications and have no history of health problems apart from pancreatitis a couple of years ago (not experienced since).

Hi!
There are many possible causes of chest pain, irregular heartbeat, and weight loss, some of which may be serious and require medical attention. Here are a few potential causes to consider:
-
Cardiovascular issues: Chest pain and irregular heartbeat can be signs of heart disease, including coronary artery disease, arrhythmia, and heart failure. These conditions may also cause weight loss due to a decrease in appetite or difficulty exercising.
-
Respiratory issues: Chest pain and weight loss can also be caused by respiratory conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, and lung cancer. These conditions may also cause shortness of breath and coughing.
-
Gastrointestinal issues: Conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, and pancreatitis can cause chest pain, irregular heartbeat, and weight loss. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and celiac disease may also cause weight loss due to malabsorption of nutrients.
-
Endocrine issues: Hormonal imbalances, such as an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism) or diabetes, can cause chest pain, irregular heartbeat, and weight loss.
-
Psychological issues: Anxiety and panic attacks can cause chest pain and irregular heartbeat. Depression can also cause weight loss due to a loss of appetite.
