We've all heard the statistics about how many people in the US are overweight, but what's the number on people that need to gain a few pounds? How many people fall into the 'normal' range?

That's such a hard question because probably a lot of people who are good to go are still convinced, at a perfectly "normal" weight, that they need to lose.

The media tells us:

You need to look like Kate Moss
You need to be active and fit
You need to be the right size for your body type
You need to eat this Big Mac
You can be fat and fit
Fat is the majority
Thin is the goal

But what's fat and what's thin anymore? Drs. tell you after evaluating you how much they want you to weigh, but it's like a 35-pound window, and that's too much!

I just have more questions in response; I'm confused on this subject something terrible.

I don't have the answer to your question, PH. And I'm sure if you were to do some research on the subject, you'd find wildly varying answers.
The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) recommends a range of body fat percentage in healthy adults.
For men: 8% to 15%
For women: 18% to 24%
These are guidelines and not exact. Which means if you're a woman and have a BF% of 25%, it doesn't mean you're overweight or unfit.
There is a HUGE difference between "fit" and "thin". One can be thin and be unfit, just as one can be fat and be unfit.

85% of me is the correct weight. Unfortunately the "handles" are the other 15%. I blame my wife. (it is easier than accepting responsibility for my own actions and she does cook pretty good meals) I did have my BF checked and I was 12.9%. I wouldn't mind losing about 10 pounds.

However, now that my Cholesterol came in at 235, I have been really watching the fat (saturated mainly) intake. that is my diet.
