Ambien, a sleep-inducing drug that works like a hypnotic, is the go-to drug that can treat your sleep disorder. The generic formulation of the drug is Zolpidem tartrate. It works as a relaxant by inhibiting the activity of the brain and the central nervous system while at sleep. The drug gets processed differently in men and women as their metabolism rates vary.

What is Ambien prescribed for?

This is a highly successful oral medication for people suffering from long-term insomnia as the sedative effect of the drug can be felt instantly. Ambien is also used as muscle relaxants and anticonvulsants.

Dosage and administration information of the medication

Ambien is available in dosages of both 10mg and 5mg.

It is recommended to take Ambien orally.

As its effects of the medication are immediate, it should be taken right before going to bed and with at least seven or eight hours’ sleep time.

The pill is indicated for short-term use only usually for the duration of four to six weeks based on your medical requirement.

The recommended dose of Ambien is 5 mg in elderly and debilitated patients.

I used to take Ambien and it did nothing for me. I suffer from extreme insomnia, I go days without sleep. Phenergan has done nothing for me. I have been on Xanax for my anxiety and I would use it to help me sleep. I have since become immune to it so it doesn't work for me anymore. I don't know what to do. I've even tried trazadone. I think I'm going to ask my Dr about Valium. Any other suggestions?

I am studying a Masters of Psychotherapy and my supervisor (a mental health RN) put me onto Phenergen for my anxiety around my assignments and assessments. It is a wonder drug, I have long peaceful sleeps and feel refreshed and alert the day after. I tried prescription sleeping pills and Valium however I felt drowsy the day after, Phenergen has no residual drowsiness the following day. A+ compared to Valium.

valiums are a Benzodiazepine

I would choose Valiums as a close second to Ambien or Stilnox (Asia). The main issue with valiums is a hangover. I have been really tired before the next day. Physically I have to be ready for sleep as well and have taken long walks in combo with pills when I return and get the best results. valiums are the easiest to get off of. Xanax.....,.you can't pay me enough to take those. really hard on you psychologically trying to get off them. Ambien as well. you can build a tolerance pretty quickly to Ambien and after that happens you are really playing with fire. I know this is not kosher, I do on occasion take a standard dose of Ambien in combination with a low dose of valium. I stay asleep and have no hangover. All of these take a major commitment to keep it temp. At at least I live in asia where I can buy and rotate. Living in the u.s. and having these issues is why anyone has them in the first place......its crazy town

None of them. Seriously.

Temazepam is a benzo too (same family as valium) only to be used in short duration (like a couple of weeks) because dependency can form.
