Hey I'm currently dealing with one now near the back of my tongue. My friend told me to just pull it off but I thought I'd look it up first and half of you are saying pull it off the other half aren't. It severely hurts to drink swallow and eat. I just don't know what to do...

I just had one of these on the tip of my tongue for about 2 weeks! About 10 minutes ago it was really irritating me while eating flavored savory biscuits so I decided to go have another better look at it in the bathroom. While looking in the mirror I squeezed it a little to get a better look at it and it came off! Now my tongue feels perfectly fine! Very odd, but I'm really relived. It felt like it was stinging me for about two weeks!

Im coming in WAY late on this but CHRIST! Theyre swollen TASTE BUDS! Not zits! DO NOT cut them off! Man, they last 2 to 3 days usually, and it takes a while before they come back. It cannot seriously be SO bad that you can't resisting cutting them out. Man, that makes me cringe. I get them rather often due to a habit of rubbing my tongue against my permanent bottom retainer, and sometimes due to extreme dry mouth thanks to my ADD medication. They are swollen taste buds. They last usually about 2 days tops if you are patient and leave them alone. I have read about them lasting up to a week but I have never experienced it or heard it from anyone I know. They are NOT meant to be removed, they are taste buds, you will cause unnecessary bleeding, and very very possible infection considering that many times, swollen taste buds occur due to a toxin or other infection (you don't want to risk having that spread deep into your tongue do you?). Also, your tongue is extremely sensitive and has many nerve endings, you don't want to risk screwing something up and never be able to taste sweet foods, or salty foods, etc ever again do you? This is especially bad when you're like some of the people I've seen posting, and cutting and clipping them off every single time. Be kind to your body and be patient. Swish salt water around it until it becomes less inflamed, use an antiseptic, hold ice to it if you have the chance, drink very cold fluids and hold them a second with each sip at the taste bud, avoid rubbing it against your teeth or biting on it, and stay hydrated, oh and avoid snipping the damned thing off. These people suggesting that you carelessly cut the things off are the same kind of people you end up reading about in the paper who, lets say, just needed to get rid of a cigarette and threw it into a trash can because its a trash can and a cigarette is trash and a house ended up burning down, or for another instance, decided to, idk, gargle with hydrogen peroxide EVERY night and also ingest a small amount, because you know, it cleans so, its safe right? And then ended up dying.

I too get these so called "lie" bumbs from time to time and they are definitely a nuisance...I really didn't know much about these until recent and to those who want to know, this is the best info I can get on them. Although there really is no cure, I hope that some of you find solace in at least knowing what they are and what may cause them. (info taken from wikipedia)
The name "lie bumps" is a result of a myth that telling lies would cause them. However, very little has been written about this condition in scientific articles or textbooks and scientific studies have failed to produce a definite cause. Possible causes include: "stress, gastrointestinal upset, menstruation, acidic or sour food, smoking, and local trauma" (direct physical irritation) of the tongue. Lie bumps are often caused by the taste bud/buds splitting.
"Lie Bumps" are small, white bumps on the base of the tongue. They are likely to be the result of transient lingual papillitis (TLP). This condition is limited to the upper (dorsal) surface of the tongue, affecting some of the tiny bumps on the tongue known as the fungiform papillae, what we commonly call the "taste buds."
TLP is a harmless problem. These bumps can become notably red or white and are quite tender for up to several days. While the cause of TLP is not known with certainty, most experts feel that local accidental trauma (rubbing, scraping or biting) is a major factor; however, contact reactions to things like certain foods have also been suggested. Lie bumps are not contagious and the discomfort is relatively minor. Typically these lesions heal within a few days with no treatment, though a check doctor may refer to an oral pathologist in prolonged cases.

Ok, I took the risk and tried to "cut off" the swollen taste bud with nail clippers as suggested by people here. (After sterilizing the clippers with rubbing alcohol,) it was not too hard to isolate that taste bud and almost clip it off - i was too afraid to squeeze the clippers completely - but it whatever happened, it got rid of the white part of it, and now the pain is down to nothing at all, and there was no blood! I did put some Hydrogen Peroxide on it afterward, which made it fizz, and believe you me, I am glad that thing is gone! Feels like a normal tongue again!

That's what I think did it for me. I am not surprised as I have read that ingesting cinnamon will produce mouth sores. I was putting a cinnamon stick into a mug of boiled water, letting it sit for some hours and then drinking it It makes a super sweet drink without any added sugar and is very intense plus no calories. However, after having a mug once a day for maybe 3 or 4 days, I get the mouth sores. But the actual tongue sores came up when I had been chewing some fabulous cinnamon gum every day. So it is obvious I need to limit how much I take in.
