Its an infected taste bud, and yes it will grow back, be carefull of the "cautios" comments here. This is not something you make a trip to the octor for lol. you either just wait for it to go away, or yes you can pull or cut it off.

I took an antibiotic once and quite literally i had an alergic reaction to it that made all my taste budds fall off. They felt like grains of sand in my mouth i kept spitting out untill i looked at my toungue and noticed it had large silky smooth patchs. They all grew back quite quickly.

So for those screaming about taste buds dont grow back, dont cut em off, go to the doctor. Realize that not everything is something to be so afraid of. People are quite capable of clipping thier own nails, pulling out thier own loose teeth, getting rid of an infected tastebud, putting a bandaid on a cut etc... God how do half of you even survive I wonder. :/

Do you know how rude this is? Have you ever had one of these? Because the bud grows right back.

It's caused by glass fibers. The ones that affect the tongue are long fibers, usually from fiberglass ceiling tiles. When you inhale them, they are trapped by the moisture in your mouth. The tongue is one of the most sensitive parts of the body. Your body releases macrophages to deal with the foreign matter, but if the fibers are too large, the body will give an inflammatory response. The white bumps or sores will last until the glass is removed, either through normal eating or physically. I suffered with these for years, but they finally stopped when I got a new job. I remembered them, because they were always falling out of the ceiling. I went to visit a friend who had the same crappy fiberglass ceiling tiles, one of which had fallen out. The next day, I had the little white sores on my tongue. That's when I made the connection. They went away after awhile and to test the theory, I revisited my friend. Next day. Sores. I did some research and discovered that glass fibers will provoke this reaction from the body.

I used to get these painful pumps on my tongue 4-5 times a year until I discovered I'm allergic to three things, cinnamon, strawberries and SLS in toothpaste.  If I really want to have cinnamon or strawberries, I just brush my teeth and tongue with Verve Ultra toothpaste or Dr. Bronner's soap after I finish eating.  Certain toothpastes, such as whitening ones, give me really bad bumps.  I hope this helps!  Also, there is a oral numbing agent called Kanka.  It helps a lot with the pain.  I haven't had one in years, since I started using Verve Ultra toothpaste twice a day or more if I eat cinnamon or strawberries.

I get them too.  They're canker sores.  Believe it or not, applying onion to the affected area is one of the best fixes.  Check out this link...***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed***Please read our Terms of Use

Hi :)
Do not worry, this has happened to me before as well. Avoid eating spicy, greasy, and high sodium rich foods. This will help, and do not bite the taste bud, it will hurt bad. Last, take a damp, clean washcloth and gently dab the spots. Good luck ;)

I have them right now on the tip of my tongue.. and can you guess from what? Sunflower seeds as well! I noticed I get a small group of them on the tip of my tongue every time I eat them. Which is a shame because they were always my favorite snack and I could eat a bag to myself in one day growing up with no irritation on my tongue. Now if I try that.. forget it.

I too love salty popcorn and have these same tiny white bumps from time to time. As mentioned previously avoid salty stuff as well as alcohol for a few day & they should diminish. Also hit the warm salt water. Funny how salt water work but salty popcorn does not.

actually i have one big one and when i showed my doctor she told me to just bite it off or cut it off. she said it will heal fine and if i were to go to an ear, nose, and throat doctor they'd do the exact same thing pretty much.

I have just started chewing the Stimirol Cinnamon Fire Gum and now I've got these inflammed buds all down the side of my tongue and also ontop, and only on the side I chew. Clearly this gum must be the cause.

I would numb it with something (not ice, go get an actual oral jell meant for numbing like tooth pain or something) and then use nail clippers to clip it off. Careful not to cut another part of your tongue! This brings relief almost immediately past the slight (WAY better when compared to the actual bump when it's still there) sting when the jell wears off. After that it's usually healed in less than 2 days.

It's worked every time I've done it.

You're eating c**p. It gave you cancer. Luckily, if you brush your teeth more often and gargle with listerine or salt water for the next few days, it should clear right up.
