I have never gotten these white bumps before, but I have been chewing a lot of cinnamon gum and my tongue has been feeling like it's burnt, like from coffee or hot chocolate or something. But I think it's the cinnamon gum!! How long till they went away for you??

I have had this swollen taste bud problem since childhood.  Initially my doctor said it appeared to be an allergic reaction.  So, I tried to figure out what caused the outbreak.  A few likely culprits are SALT SUBSTITUTE, SOME TOOTHPASTES, SPICY fOOD....not sure 50 years later!

Some helpful things to ease the inflammation or pain are:  Orajel Sore Mouth Rinse, and anti-inflammatories like aspirin or ibuprofen. That's in addition to those already mentioned.  It is very painful and aggravating, so any more ideas will be appreciated.

Family Remedy passed down:

I used to have these painful bumps also! But I found a cure for this issue and don't have to worry about cutting each individual bump when it returns anymore.

I found that if I use Mint flavored dental floss in a slip knot configuration tied a few cm's behind where last bump seems to be located, pull till finger tight. Then, make sure there is at least 10 ft of floss running from the tied end. At this point I recommend using a corner of building, or something, to brace the person you are helping with this. Then take the untied end and loop behind the bumper of any vehicle or motorbike capable of at least a 10 second quarter mile minimum. Quick note: I found this works best if you blind fold the person and then walk to a chair without them peeking till procedure is over. (If blind folding is not possible, you may need to to force feed them some nitrous). Any way, on the count of "0", vehicle will take off and will yank tongue right out before the person even knows it is gone! Problem solved. There is a chance that profuse bleeding may occur where tongue was located. I solved this issue by keeping a solution of rubbing alcohol, sea salt and glowing branding iron on hot coals handy.

If this still doesn't get rid of the bumps, you will probably have forgotten how irritating they are by this point in the procedure!  :-|

I'm experiencing this problem at the moment (and I have also in the past since I was young; it only happens every few months or so) and I rip mine off with nail clippers. It hurts a lot and bleeds for a few seconds but afterwards I feel better and when I go to sleep at night it'll "scab" over--like a thin, white layer forms. I usually pull that off too when I wake up, but it doesn't hurt and the side of my tongue will feel normal again.

Hi everyone!

I have what you are talking about RIGHT NOW. I get them from time to time. They can be very painful and usually only last a few days to a week. Do NOT bite them! The temptation can be tough but just don't. Avoid foods that irritate in general (i.e. - acidic, spicy, overly sour, too hot/cold) and stay away from tobacco and alcohol. Use warm salt water to rinse with or Listerene at night. To help with the pain, I have found that Chloroseptic (just a few sprays) or Ambesol helps a ton.
When I get them they appear to be red and small or large and white. No one else would EVER notice them but they are very obvious to me. I have actually popped one like a pimple before...very bad idea. Hurt like all living hell. Don't ask why I would have done that. I was at wit's end maybe.

But like I said, mouthwash and salt water....mild oral pain killers and avoid irritants.

If anyone would like to talk about this just email me
Take care!

Charlie

I too have this problem.... It has lasted over a week now. I am washing out with salt water. I did bite them and it made it worse. I was told that I was run down. brush my teeth twice a day and use warm salt water. They have reappeared and I am not a happy person.

I agree, unless examined the problem can be anything and just because it seems similar to someone else's condition does not mean it is. Cutting your tongue is very dangerous & can cause an infection. Some of theses infections are not easily cured and can cause long periods of sickness.

These are caused by eating salty IR acidic foods. If you wait a couple days it will go away. Or if you are impatient like me, you can pop it with your fingernail. It doesn't hurt much & doesn't bleed

Okay the reason why this is happening is due to not brushing your teeth so much.  Trust me I get them a lot and I chew on them to numb the damn place...the reason: your tongue holds a lot of germs and bacteria and the only way to clean them is this really neat tool from OralJel the ones who made the tooth brushes...

Ive had this problem and the best thing to do is just pull it off. It feels 110% better as soon as you do and not painfula at all. Like someone else said if it doesnt come off with ease, its not ready and should try the next day.
