I've been looking up why i may have this and a lot of people say its only hormones and will go away in a few months, some say theirs have went away in 4-6months but for me I’ve had them sense I was 13 and have been too embarrassed to say anything but now I’m 17 and its really annoying because it kind of shows. Should it have been this long? Is this normal? And should i see my doctor? I just want to know they will still go away :(

(The guest) They are like little balls right under as in under the skin under my nipples, not on top of the skin below if thats what you were asking.

Hi - I'm a doctor. You have what sounds like pubertal mastitis. When you are a teenager your hormone levels can be very high - this stimulates the little bit of breast tissue that all men have and causes the swelling that you describe. It's entirely harmless and usually settles as you get older. If it doesn't settle down and it really is visible, then a minor operation can remove the lumps, but this is very rarely required. If in doubt, get your own doctor to check.

If i do have what you say how will I know when it’s time to ask my doctor about the operation? I've had them sense i was around 13 or so, so if they haven't went away after 4-5years can they still go away on their own in the next year? Or should i just go talk to my doc about the operation?

Hi there - I've registered now!

I wouldn't rush in to surgery if I were you. They nearly always settle on their own eventually and unless the swelling is very visible and embarrassing it's best to leave them alone. It sounds like you're quite worried about it, though, so why not get your doctor to have a look and see what he/she thinks.

Hey there! Just so you know, I'm right there with you! I've had lumps under my nipples since I was around 14 & currently I am 24... I've been to many doctors & all of them have told me that it is COMPLETELY normal. They are just normal mammory glands. For some men, when they develop, they are slightly bigger or more noticable than others. I would definately check with your doctor, but its more than likely what I said. I wouldn't worry too much about it hun!
Hope this helps!
