hello everyone! On Thursday Jan 24th I was at work and got severe pains on my left side of my lower back. I went to the emergency room to find out that I have a 6mm kidney stone in my left ureter after getting a CT Scan, above my bladder. They gave me painkillers, flomax, nausea pills and ibuprofen and told me to drink a lot of water, strain my urine and make an appointment with a urologist. I had an appointment this afternoon and needless to say I am not happy. First the urologist said that he couldn't really see the stone on the xray (they sent me for anxray an hour before the appointment , then looked again and said he "thinks" he saw it . Then he looked at the CT Scan and saw it there. So he asked me if i passed it and i said no. He tells me he wants me to wait ANOTHER week, because he thinks that it might pass on its own, yet comparing the ct scan and the xray the stone hasnt really moved. Ive been out of work and now he wants me to wait seven more days that i cant afford to take off of work, then if it doesnt pass then maybe he might discuss taking action. Does this sound right to any of you? Not to mention the guy was a total jacka** and pretty much told me to suck it up. So has anyone had a 6mm stone above the bladder that infact did pass? or needed surgery? Any input would be nice. thank you!!

I am not certain, but ussually if its over 5mm they dont send you home and wait for you to pass it, as the chances are very low (less than 25 percent) that it will pass. I am sure the urologists knew what he was doing.... but still. Perhaps it is less than 6mm since he couldn't see it? The greater the stone size, the less chance it will pass.
