My father had been having terrible back pain and had a hx of kidney stones. He went to his urologist and found he had a 12mm stone.
Nothing was set up for him to have it removed. 2 months later after much pain. He went to the ER Dec 28th 2009 by ambulance with burning all over his body, and low b/p. He was sent home saying he had a virus. 2.5 hrs later he had my brother rush him back to ER and he couldn't breath, he was coughing up sputum with blood. The put him on a respirator and took him to CCU and they said he was "septic". I brought the CT showing the stone to the CCU. They disreguarded it. He was put on dialysis 3 days after being put in CCU. He had brain damage because the respirator wasn't put in properly in the ER until 3 hrs. later. He never woke again. He started forming blood clots and couldn't withstand the dialysis. He died Jan. 14th, 2010. His chart at the Urologist shows a 1.2mm stone, but the CT report states 12mm stone. I think there is about 6 hrs. to start tx when someone is found to be septic. Was there anything that could have been done after he came back the 2nd time? They said he wasn't stable for 2 wks to even get a CT to check his head and by then it showed recent infarcs and his EEG was flat even though he would turn his head toward us when we talked to him, but not open his eyes. I would just not want this to ever happen to anyone else that complains of "burning" as opposed to "aching" all over like the flu or virus. He was not able to even make sense the 2nd time to ER.
