It's possible that there is something food-related or environmental that could cause pain or an inflammatory reaction in your abdominal area. I've been having abdominal pains only at night, but have been eating out at a restaurant at night lately. I have food allergies that are fairly mild, so I'm not always as careful as I should. That's when my symptoms seem to creep up on me... I'm sure that there are many other potential causes for abdominal pain at night, but I would recommend ruling out food allergies/intolerances. ALCAT has some decent allergy tests, including one that covers 200 foods.

Ok peeps..Got the DIAGNOSIS from my ORIGINAL post 2months ago then 3 weeks ago. IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME AND GERD! NO CANCER FOUND in both colon OR stomache THANK YOU LORD!! I actually broke down and CRIED when I got the findings..I was SO AFRAID it was cancer because Ive NEVER had that PAIN in my life..They did remove POLYPS but again, negative findings..The doc said I had ALOT of inflammation and acid in my stomach when they were doing the scopes. She also said my colon was *spasm*-ing when they inserted the scope..She put me on an ulcer/anti-acid medicine that Im taking for one month then she wants me to get OFF the medicine permanently. She told me to intake as much FIBER as possible from here on and I asked for a *menu* that has all the FOODS that contain fiber and I went out and bought some *Metamucil* wafers that I have everyday..I also eat dried prunes everyday and Im cutting out greasy PIZZA[which I love lol] amongst other good but bad foods..Im making sure I eat whole wheat bread now and have a banana a day along with vegetables daily at least M-Thursday..[Friday and Saturday is *casual food nite] lol She said no more than 2 servings of RED MEAT a week..I feel SO MUCH BETTER now just eating the wafers and drinking plenty of water..Because Im on the medicine[which will run out soon] I havent had that PAIN AT ALL and by building up the fiber, that will help the IBS...Im so grateful for a non-life threatening diagnosis and Im looking forward to another 20yrs engaging in a better diet and eating healthy..THATS ALL FOLKS.. #happycamper #intakeyourfiber #drinkwater

Exactly the same with me. Bedtime is the same. First wake up also the same bet 1 and 2 AM. I wake up take an anti acid some water and the pain subsides goes back to sleep. Pain came back again bet 4 and 5 am get up take Nexium and anti acid and sometimes ice pack on the left upper quadrant, pain subsides goes back to sleep. Pain increases with sleeping on left or right side so I have rigged up two bolsters to prevent turning on my side. Also elevated the head. Been to endo and colonscopy last week and then ultrasound for the pancreas this week. I don't think it will show anything major. The upper and lower endo came out negative. I think it is the Nexium problem, supressing the acid production but the body compensates and produce more acid to digest the food. Anyway I can't take off Nexium now, may be wean it later. Hope the GI Dr can provide me with an immediate solution to relieve the nocturnal acid attacks.

It wasn't the psoas muscle. Pain at rest that gets better with movement are classic indications of an inflammatory/immune illness. I was finally diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ankylosing_spondylitis) by a rheumatologist. I take the NSAID Celebrex, and it controls my abdominal pains, back pain, leg and hip pain, and now I feel almost normal. It was quite hard to get a diagnosis. If you think you have spondylitis, you may need to work hard to convince your doctor for a referral to a rheumatologist. Make sure you go to a rheumatologist that specialises in spondylitis as it can be quite hard to diagnose.

The mednight abdominal pain is caused by hyperacidity of the stomach. And hyperacidity of the stomach itself is cause by a bacteria called "Helecobacter Pylori". If one really experience mednight stomach ache has to go to the family doctor and ask him to do a blood test for the diagnosis of this bacteria. The H. Pylori is a bacteria which lives in the acidic environment, specially in the stomach and cause hyperacidity, stomach ulcers, acute and chronic gastritis. When one has the bactgeria, the lab test will diagnose it's anti-body in the blood. When it's proved positive, then your family doctor will prescribe you a combination of medications called HP. Pack. Take this medication regularly and continue the course, don't miss any dosage. After finishing the complete course you might feel much better, otherwise you'll experience some pain for a while and the doctor will prescribe you one of the acid blockers called proton pump inhibitors such as; Omeprazole, Rabeprazole, Pentaprazole..... they all belong to the same family and you'll be put on one of them for a couple of months and you'll get better day by day.... good luck.

Hi all, I found a solution that helps me deal with the same problem as yours: it's a backward stretch of the spine.
My story:
since 2 or 3 years, gradually worsening tummy starts aching a little when I lie down, and with a peak of pain at 4am that would usually wake me up, usually with nightmares, dry mouth, hot body, increased heart rate, urge to pee, tummy distended, and most annoying for me, big hard-on that could be painfull and absolutly not associated with some erotic dreams. All these symptoms better for a release of gaz (that can be hard to pass) and mostly by sitting up or walking.
It seems that some abdominal aorta's plexus (autonomic nerves of the digestive system) are very irritated by some sort of mechanical pressure which I struggle to determine (I'm an osteo).
Now, I've been noticing that a backward stretch has been helpful. Could be the stretch of the bridge, but not all can do it, and beware it need some preparation for your shoulders. Google it and follow instructions. Otherwise try to do it on a swissball, or standing. You should feel your upper tummy stretch. Anyhow, just arch backward!!!
I sleep like a baby if I do it before going to sleep. What a relief! Please tell me if it worked for you.

Is there ever pain during the daytime? For the past 14 years I have had pain during the night only. It started out occasional now it is every night. As soon as I stand it starts to dissipate immediately. Sleeping at high inclination helped for a couple years, now I have to sleep almost completely upright to avoid this pain. I noticed some relief lately when i stop eating very early like 4pm. Still investigating this. Also the nature of the pain has changed from a dull ache in the upper ab to an inflammatory feeling in the mid ab but no burn sensation. I've had upper gi, endoscopy, ct scan, colonoscopy, bravo test. With no abnormalities found, but I'm still having pain.

What is going on here? There seems to be no answer. Surely a doctor somewhere has a solution? As soon as I lie down I get a high funny feeling throughout my body and a sore stomach. I roll and twist; get up for numerous pees. I am in and out of bed for hours. The high feeling is like hitting the top of the roller caster. It will not stop. I want to eat or walk, just do something to get it to stop, but it will not. I slept in a recliner for two months and it helped. I have an electric bed now and sleep with it in sitting position. Now the stomach pain and high feeling is back again. I need an answer now. I do not think I can live like this much longer. It is depressing to see so many others with similar problems and no answers. I am getting desperate. I have had ultra sound, and CT scan; all are ok. For goodness sake, there must be an answer to this problem somewhere. Where is the medical community; why are they not responding to our common problem? Someone tell me what to do as my doctor has no answer.

I have used this back stretch for my arthritis. It works. I will try it before bed to see if it helps with my stomach ache when I lie down at night. I have same problems as everyone on this site and more. Thanks for suggestion in this regard.
