Well I've been having some upper stomach aching pain for the last week and I will wake up in the middle of the night and walk around the table and put a heating pad on my stomach and nothing seems to work. My mom think its cramps but i don't because its like upper abdominal pain that last for like 2-3 hours, I think I might have kidney stones? I haven't went to see the doctor to check up on it yet . Because I'm scared that when I do they will just turn me back around but ( I NEED HELP NOW), can anyone help me and tell me what their opinion is ??? I can't take this pain any longer.

I've had the same issues for as long as I can remember. I figured it was just my bed, but its not, my issue will ONLY come I at night, so I went to the fixture and he says its muscle spasms BC there's nothing on my right side that would only hurt at night. Right when I'm up walking around (or I fart) it hires away. Its the weirdest thing. For something to only hurt AT night? I've had kidney stones, and gave birth I know what poison is.. This is more of like a pressure pain which gets worse when I breathe in. If I'm laying on my left side and the right is hurting I turn to the right and lay on it, or put pressure in it and that seems to help a little. I'm 23 with no other health issues, sooOOooo I can't seem to think of anything else besides what the Dr said

Why does no one read all the other posts that I made in the past? There are 12 other pages of answers. The other pages that I wrote completely answers all of the basic questions like those...there are several reasons why it happens only at night: You digestive track slows down at night, and if there is still food in your stomach the food will ferment and release air/gas making you bloated. This is because you are not up and moving around to jossle the duodenum or use gravity to push food from your stomach into the duodenum, which is the doorway valve between your stomach and your intestines that lets the food out of the stomach. When you eat food with high inflammatory omega-6 fat, like most potato chips, or food that causes high stomach acid, your duodenum will become inflamed, and close the door between your stomach and your intestines; is like blowing up a massive balloon in the middle of a hallway. Then when the duodenum is inflamed, the stomach pushes harder on it, and it becomes even more inflamed. Then to make things worse, the second reason why this only happens at night is because you are laying in one position for a long period of time and the pools of stomach acid sit in one spot and start to corrode into your flesh like a pool of battery acid on a rock. That is why you feel better when you move around because you are sloshing the acid pools into a new place in your stomach so that they don't sit and corrode in one penetrating spot. This is why duodenum ulcers are so common, because all of the acid in your stomach has to pass that small channel to leave the stomach and enter the intestines. Yes, you are supposed to have protective mucosa that acts like a slimy protective barrier, but after people don't eat the right nutrients that replenish it, or leave it to get pounded daily, and monthly by stomach acid, the mucosa diminishes and you are left with acid on bare flesh; that is the defining cause of an ulcer, mucosa that diminished in one spot and acid eats away at bare flesh. I hope these words are not too strong for this audience; I am hoping that they give your body a voice, because its trying to tell you that its in terrible disarray and pain, and I hope the strong words helps you realize that you are dealing with sensitive flesh inside your body, and any delay in changing your eating habits to help the problem, only further hurts your own body. Don't eat fried foods, don't eat more than 40g a day of sugar, don't eat more than a tiny bit of Omega-6 fat; don't eat things that are terribly processed; eat fruits and vegetables, and lean meat. Did you know that Milk has one of the highest concentrations of Omega-6 fat? After my stomach felt better, I did a test and drank 4 glasses of 2% milk for a couple days and the inflammation became so bad that I experienced all the stomach issues that you mentioned; you need to educate yourself on what food causes inflammation, and acid. Take this as an open door for you to go into the right direction. Start learning about food and how nutrients and vitamins cause what reactions in your body. Solutions: 1) Don't eat fatty, acid causing food, and certainly don't eat it at night; and drink plenty of water to lubricate your intestines; and remember, liquid empties the stomach first in about 45 minutes, where food takes 2-3 hours 2) You may have an ulcer in your duodenum which is now agitated and inflamed at the drop of a hat; you must reduce the acid in your stomach by eating right, or taking a mild H2 inhibitor if you must until the ulcer is gone; it takes about 14 days to heal; I would not recommend PPI inhibitors, they are potent, and can disrupt your body terribly; you should get this checked out to see if the ulcer, though rare, is caused by H-Pylori virus, which means less acid in your stomach can make the ulcer worse by proliferating the H-pylori; like I said its rare, but it must be taken into account; most ulcers are caused by hyperacidity through poor eating habits 3) Make sure you are consuming all the required nutrients for a human being; search online for "Essential Nutrients" and make sure you are eating Omega-3 fatty acids; they act as anti-inflammatories, and you can take more than the required amount to reduce inflammation. 4) Go get your primary care doctor to refer you to a gastroentranologist, and DON'T LET THEM JUST SLAP YOU WITH SOME PPI'S AND SHOVE YOU OUT THE DOOR. That can lead to 10 years of stomach problems like I had before I found the cause of the problem and solved it myself. 5) Take your health seriously; what you put in your body, including food can make you think, act, and feel one way or the other; just like coffee makes you hyper, alcohol makes you confused, tryptophan in Turkey makes you calm and sleepy, Omega-6 Fat can make your body inflamed and cause pain and anger, and saturated fat can make your brain foggy. 6) Drink enough water/liquids to lubricate your intestines; if they are not lubricated, it can cause constipation and show down the food transit process 7) You should know that the longer you let this go on the more you are hurting your body; your lack of sleep leads to lack of serotonin production, lack of melatonin being used as an antioxidant in your body, all leading to stress, pain, agitation, anger, anxiety, and a bunch of other disarray. 8) As a quick fix when you are in extreme pain, you can take an Advil liquid gel to reduce the inflammation in your duodenum and let the food process through, but NSAD's like Advil also agitate the lining of the stomach, so if you take them more than once in a blue moon you will make your problem worse; you need to reduce the acid by eating right, and stop drinking coffee, and alcohol, both are the worst thing you can drink for hyperacidity. Heal your stomach lining first then when you know it's healed, then you can go back to alcohol conservatively. 9) Know that over the counter antigas medicines will not work to reduce the inflammation or the acid, and if you take too much antacids they can make your stomach cramped and give you just as much pain as it being inflamed. 10) First thing is first, you must start eating right, but you can also research different vitamins that replenish your stomach mucosa, such as Quercetin; but look them up thoroughly and test them for a week or two to see if they are right for you and your system. In closing, look up "Essential Nutrients" and take a look at all the nutrients that 99% of people do not eat on a daily basis like you should. Taking a good multivitamin like the Megamen/Megawoman complete multivitamins from GNC covers almost all the essential vitamin requirements, and the the only essential vitamins or minerals that this multivitamin lacks is: Calcium(only 20%), Magnesium(only 13%), Potassium(only 2%), and Iron(0%). The good news is that those vitamins are somewhat readily available in many foods
P.S. "Essential Nutrients" and mild exercise :)

Joseph, please use paragraphs next time. It's difficult to read a huge wall of text. But, what you said does make a lot of sense. They should make you read all posts in a topic so people won't post 12 pages of questions when someone already answered the questions.
I've been feeling abdominal pain and one of the things I've been doing is drinking 2% milk at night, a short while before going to bed. I'm gonna cut that habit and see what happens.

Yes, this helped, but I'm concerned with what if its the organs that's are on the right side? I've been to the Dr and all that was established was a strained or pulled muscle. I'm thinking bigger, like something serious, but than again, why would it only hurt at night. And ours right sided flank pain. Not abdominal

A pulled muscle that hurts only at night, and someone that went to medical school is telling you that it is because of a pulled muscle? A second opinion sounds in order.
Don't stop until you are satisfied with the answer because doctors don't care about your body as much as you do. With regard to the side pain, I don't know how far toward the left or back side you mean, but I can tell you that your Duodenum valve is at the base of your stomach on the right side. If you have an ulcer in your duodenum, that's where you would feel a burning pain from the acid. Like you said though, it could be something else; your kidney is over there too. It sounds like you need to have tests done by a specialist, and now you know that doctors sometimes move very slowly, even while you may be getting worse, and how important it is to be your body's #1 protector, as apposed to leaving that role in the hands of any one doctor. -Joseph

yes, a pulled muscle that hurts when i take a deep breath in- and from the way my body is positioned at night. It feels like it's right under my right rib cage- more of like you know the charlie horses you get in your leg? it feels like that when i take a deep breath in. I know it's not kidney stones, i've had those when i was pregnant, and this hurts less than that. They also said gas as well- i'm just a hypochondriac. My gyno said it cant be something serious if it ONLY hurts at night and if it goes away immediately after i stand up- she said it COULD Lead to something serious IF i don't have it checked out.

I can see how the doctor may have thought that it is a pulled muscle now that you mention that it hurts when you breathe in, but still, I think you should have tests done if it has not gone away in a few days; pulled muscles normally only take that long to heal; and not to scare you, but when you breathe in your lungs press on many internal organs, such as your pancreas; what if something was about to burst?
Even if it is just a pulled muscle, I have the belief that the patient knows their body better than the doctor, and it could not hurt to keep pursuing it until you feel satisfied with your health; that's what doctors are there for. Don't forget you can feel what the doctor can't, and you can feel it 24 hours a day; that's why it's hard for a 5 min consultation from a doctor to compete with your own analysis.

I am having the same symtoms as ou are only they are on the right side. I am planning on drinking clear drinks for a few days to see if this changes anything. I have a strong feeling that it will as I remember the pain stopping for a while after I stopped drinking diet coke. So I dont drink coffee, or alcohol anyway, but I do drinkin diet coke. I am going to stop starting today and repost after the holiday. There is a chemical in most dark drinks, I cannot think of the name of it but it starts with an O. I learned about it years ago before I started having this issue. I think it may be the root of my problems. I will keep you posted. While I am very sorry that you are going through this, I am comforted that I am not alone. Thanks for your post

Hi Joseph, this all makes sense, though most of us seem to be having the pain on our left side. The first time I went to the doctor he suspected a duodenal ulcer, and prescribed PPIs which seemed to work, but the problem has since returned.

I had this problem for 2 years, I found out I had a onion intolerance, thought I would hop back on here in hope I could help someone who is going through the pain I was. onion powder is in everything so it too a long time to figure out the problem. I would wake up every night at 3am and be in pain for a while, ranged from 30 min to 2 hours, then fall back asleep, but would wake up in the morning feeling weak and shaky like I just had the flu. bowel movements were alot soft and more frequant as well. Garlic also has the same affect on Me now, there is more info on the internet now than there was a year ago, it seams to be a growing issue. hope this email helps someone
