I was treated for anal warts with an acid. It burned during/after the treatment but not badly for long.
It is still sore however when I use the bathroom or itch - it has now been one week.
I am also finding blod spots on my toilet paper (as I did when I first discovered the warts). It also 'feels' like the warts are still there.
The doctor offered me a prescription for a cream but I could not afford it anyway.
Is this common, or does this mean that the treatment probably failed?

Treatment with trichloroacetic acid works for warts in 50 to 80% cases and the recurrence occurs in 35% of those treated and cured.
If it feels as if the warts are still there, you should see your doctor for a follow-up. How many applications did you have? When treated with trichloroacetic acid, a patient usually needs to repeat sessions to completely clear genital warts.
When the warts are burned, white coating is supposed to develop over the burned area. The most common side effects of the trichloroacetic acid treatment is local pain and irritation and there are no other systemic (on other parts of the body) side effects.
Genital warts rarely cause bleeding and treatment with trichloroacetic acid shouldn’t cause any bleeding either.
