the best way to find a qualified accupuncturist is to check out your yellow pages in the phone book. Look for a qualified physical therapist who has taken accupuncture training after their physical therapy qualifications. the reason for this is simple. A physical therapist is totaly familiar with the muscles and nerves of the the entire body in a more intimate way than one who has taken accupuncture as a secondary to another alternative health care professional such as a naturopath. You will have to be clear when you go for assesment that you want to try accupuncture for the treatment of tourettes. The difference between going to someone who only practises accupuncture and one is a physio therapist first is like night and day in my experience. Most Yellow page llsitngs for Physical therapist will also include the different types of therapies they also offer and accupuncture will be listed. if they offer it, you should be able to see their certification on their walls as well.

do you happen to know what points that first acupuncturist used? If they still have the records, it would be wonderful if you'd be able to find out and post them here for others to try out. :) Even if she/he doesn't have records anymore, often the therapist remembers a general idea. I would like to see what info they have to offer and share, please.

For Donna or anyone else who successfully went to an acupunturist: do you happen to know what points that first acupuncturist used? If they still have the records, it would be wonderful if you'd be able to find out and post them here for others to try out. :) Even if she/he doesn't have records anymore, often the therapist remembers a general idea. Since tics, spasms, and verbal symptoms vary from individual to individual, a well qualified acupuncturist will vary the points to the individual http://massage1.dev.apexoo.com/userfiles/image/acup%20chart.gif if this link doesn't work for you use your search engine (google in my case) and type in acupuncture points, too access diagrams with all the acupuncture points, to give you an idea of which ones the practioner is likely to use. Just make sure to tell her/him where all the tics or spasms are.
Just remember to tell her/him, if any hurt, so they can be adjusted or moved slightly. It isn't supposed to hurt!
You will feel exhausted for up to a week after a treatment so treat yourself, your child gently lots of rest , no rushing about, and no other extracurricular activities planned for after your first treatment.

my son has tourettes...my friend did auricular acupunture on him today to introduce him to the notion of body acupuncture (I am looking for a qualified full body acupuncturist, my friend is only qualified to do ears).I was expecting no result since it was only exposure to the needles for my 13 year old. she used 2 in both ears, my son asked for them to be removed after about ten minutes.on the drive home, he did about 5 tics (usually 8-15 per minute) 6 hours later he had ticked about 15 times...I sat there waiting for him to tic but he didn't. He has vocal and grand motor tics....I am cautious about the result, but astonished as well....I can't believe the result. I plan to continue wit the auricular acupunture until we acquire a full body acupuncturist....I would urge anyone to try it. As an aside, I am terribly conventional using western medicine as s first line...We are due to embark on the clonidine tout which I shall now put on hold.
