I'm not too sure about adderall early on in the pregnancy but I took it on and off during my first pregnancy. It didnt seem to effect my baby at all until about 8 1/2 months. I didn't feel my baby move for a whole day so I called the dr and they made me come in. They said that bc I took the adderall (20mg 2xs a day) that her heart rate spiked everytime I had a contraction and might need to do an emergency C section. Luckily they got it under control and I gave birth to a healthy baby girl. She's two now and has absolutely no health or learning problems but still the risk isn't worth it. I feel like early on in the pregnancy it wouldn't be that dangerous but once the baby starts developing more and more you should try to stop and find another way to focus. It's only for a few months and you'll get energy back during your second trimester

Thanks for sharing every one. I'm frustrated about this issue because it seems there is no yes or no answer. I am just starting to try to get pregnant and I want to do the right thing. Should I get off or stay on my adderall? I need the medicine to focus, but II'm willing to get off of it if that's what I need to do. I don't want to feel guilty or harm my baby if I should not take the medicine. I just feel frustrated because I'm between a rock and a hard place with the decision of staying on the meds. Help please. :)

I'm not pregnant, but I am researching. I take Adderall XR 30mg for narcolepsy. According to my sleep doc, falling asleep mid-sentence is a brain tumor, not narcolepsy :) I have gotten a good night's rest but still fell asleep in the few minutes I sat quietly at a red light....with nothing but my foot on the break to stop my SUV from rolling into an intersection. Anyone know of any other meds I could ask my gynecologist about when we start trying? If I have to just sleep until noon and not drive after 4:00pm for a few months, I can deal with it, but an alternative would be appreciated :)

There is very little known about the effects of adderall during pregnancy. When I was pregnant with my first child my psychiatrist, obgyn and I had little to no information about it. I was around 9 weeks when I discovered I was pregnant. My first born appeared perfect at birth, but it seems at the age of 3 he has developed a tic that may have been caused by my adderall use during the 1st trimester. Not to scare you, but I was told the most damage is done during the 1st trimester. That's why towards the end of pregnancy doctors are more lenient about you taking medicines if absolutely necessary.

My advice? If you can avoid it at all during pregnancy, do it. Nothing is worth the risk of compromising the health of your baby. Even a slight risk is too much. It seems difficult to function without it sometimes, but in the end it's worth it to have a beautiful healthy baby!

hi! I'm actually GOING on adderall to help with pregnancy. my doctor conducted a study in 2010 that showed positive results: women with endometriosis had reduced pelvic pain while taking adderall AND pregnancy rates when up and miscarriage rates went down. if i can locate the study on the internet, ill post the link.

Unfortunately, many people do not have bosses that are "reasonable people." Additionally, even if a pregnant woman cannot be fired for being pregnant, maybe she cannot "pull her weight" right up until her due date because of totally normal pregnancy symptoms: fatigue and related "brain farts." Pregnant women should really NOT have to experience MORE stress of "I need to pull my weight at work." Something is really wrong with the way we treat pregnancy in this country, specifically in the work force.

Hey ladies. i take adderall as well and have had no complications, as far as questions to some of you who have had a couple kids, if you took adderall with pregnancy did it help lesson your weight gain, because in my family diabetes hits all the women and i feel fine and baby is ok, just wondering because i do not want myself or child to suffer from this and am wondering if this is a legitamite fear for anyone else? It's not a vanity thing just the diabetes problem, thanks for your replies!

Do you really want to risk possibly causing damage to your growing fetus? the selfless thing to do is think of your baby not yourself. If the child should develop any defects in the future you will always wonder if you caused this. To have a healthy baby you will feel more fulfilled to just stop your Adderall it is only for 10 months really. I stopped mine while pregnant even though my doctor said I could continue, I think its the responsible motherly thing to do.
