Hi. My brother is feeling very week, he lost his appetite and he has a chronic diarrhea. After seeing a doctor, he was diagnosed with Addison`s disease. His blood pressure is low, and so is his cortisol level. He`s on some kind of a replacement therapy and I would like to hear more about it. What is his prognosis?

Hi. My son suffers from Addison`s disease too. Replacement therapy with corticosteroids controls the symptoms of his disease. There is no cure, so he will be on the therapy for the rest of his life. He takes a combination of glucocorticoids and mineralcorticoids. Also, he`s on a supportive treatment for low blood pressure. If he skip a dose, he could die. Fortunately, with adequate therapy, he`s able to lead a normal life.
