Oh...Hi Sandra....I have surg. sched. oct 14th w/Dr Hovanesian (Harvard Eye) Had to reschedule.....UGh:(nevous & anxious to get this stuff out of my eyes. I wanted to do both at the same time but, Dr H recommended i do one at a time...Do the 2nd one when i feel up to it. Apparently he does both if u are an out of town patient...or something. I am local.....so, i dunno. Will be sooo scared to take the eye patch off the next day at home. My right eye is bothering me today like i have glass in it/dry...Which sucks, bcuz i am having my left eye done first, go figure..lol:)How are u doing..your eyes?...Are u in California?

Wow, we would all love to hear an update on your progress! I don't know what kind of stuff you are going through right now but if you are not too busy please have some courtesy to respond. There are numerous people who have these unsightly pings and we depend on other people's experiences to decided if we want to go ahead with the surgery ourselves. Please give us an update soon!

Hi,

No i am not in CA, I a m in Europe. I am going to have my surgery in Stockholm. I understand how you feel, but i guess i am not that nervous (just a little) i just want this to goaway.

Do you have very red eyes or more yellow? I know the feeling of having something like glass in your eyes. I can not go out whitout sunglasses cause the wind is a big problem. I read something about Britney Spears she had a ping surgery it kind of made mee feel a little bit better to know someone else had this (I do not know if it is true)

You are going to see a doctor who has done a lot of surgerys like this, he knows what he is doing. (I know about the doctor and i am in Europe)

After much I am considering having my 4 pings taken care of by either dr. gulani, hovanesian or boxer-wachler. I just wish they could provide us with a better idea of what to expect. Before/after pics, success rates.... I'll figure out how to post pics.
There was this one research I read about that described the connection between cholesterol and pings...something about using photodynamic therapy.. it lead me to Dr. tseng's practice but he replied that he knows nothing of an alternative treatment.

I have been researching a lot about pinguecula removal and Dr.Gulani's website kept appearing everywhere.I called Gulani Vision Institute they said they would accomodate me with my busy nurse's schedule ;so after all the holidays I am flying to Jacksonville,Fl. What attracted me the most to Dr.Gulani is his patients' testimonials on youtube and his website and I even emailed to one of his patients and was happy to find that I could have Laser surgery later on (maybe not even 6-7 months later down the recovery).Anyway shoot me with questions if you have and I will let you know how my new eyes would be feeling and looking. I am so excited:))) :D

My mom (55 y old) had pterygium surgery with Dr.Gulani in Florida and she couldn't be happier. She told me it changed her life because people no longer staring at her eye and it is not as dry,red and irritated as before the surgery. She said that recovery wasn' too bad ,of course it's major surgery and of course you have to take couple days off and avoid dirty stuff getting into the eye, but overall she is very satisfied . I think what made her surgery so succesfull if course excellent surgeon skills and Amniotic Membrane technique. Also my mom during brecovery was very optimistic too and I think her attitude helped her heal faster.

Nothing to worry about the surgery, however if you still do just call the office you want to have the surgery in and listen what the staff tells you ;;if they are confident and have good surgeon and all the research and patient testimonials to back up the results then you should be all set.Do not wait until your pinguecula/pterygium grows bigger and more invasive. Please let us know about your surgery, and try to find out as much as possible before you have a lasek or lasik surgery. I had lasek and after that my eyes do not look the same at all. I now have pings, i did not have this before. Do you have dry eyes now? how long have you had this ping problem? How big or small is your ping?

Hi Everyone!

I was diagnosed with pinguecula a few years back, I am 31 now, but it wasn't until recently that I started feeling pain in my left eye consistently. I have to say I'm pretty depressed about this situation. My eyes used to be so bright and clear. I stopped wearing contacts 2 weeks ago as per doctors' suggestion. Im also using artificial tears 4x a day. Im wondering if surgery is the right thing for me and what advances have been made in the way of pinguecula removal. What are people's recoveries like after the fact? Is it worth it? Or do I need to just practice acceptance? The aesthetics are one thing but the constant irritation is what is really driving me crazy.

Here are some other questions: should I avoid the sun/wind at all costs?; should I avoid staring at my computer?; what is the appropriate amount of prevention tactics?

Plus do people know of any doctors in New York City who do this kind of surgery?

Thank you fellow pinguecula sufferers! Let's not let those little bastards get us down.

;-)

hi...i had pterygium surgery 6 months ago. Mixed results. One eye turned out amazing...the other one did NOT.(the disease was worse..pterygium...on the color part that was aggressive..in that eye) That eye now has uncomfortable scar tissue that is raised up & white) Dr wont do another surgery....on that eye. Maybe its too damaged..who knows... DR's...unfortunately dont have all the answers..as i have learned through this whole process. I went to DR Hovanesian at Harvard Eye in CA...one of the best surgeons according to everyone & one eye was successful out of two. So disappointing. My eye that was slow in growing the disease turned out great...so my advice is this..The smaller the growth the better.....that eye healed quickly & beautifully for me. HOWEVER...the aggressive pterygium did NOT heal as well as hoped. It still gets irritated..a lil red..uncomfortable. The surgery itself is nothing to worry about. Piece of cake & very quick..that was the easy part. Recovery is not painful really..just uncomfortable at times. The eyes look strange though...for many months...MY eyelids looked droopy and weird for several months...like a lazy eye. THAT was scary...but it got better...and my eyes do look a little smaller in size as many other people have said also. I was in such pain for 4 years with this eye disease..it has had such a negative impact on my life..that i am not the same outgoing person i used to be. It has taken its toll on me. So i decided to find the best DR i could & have surgery....and my right eye looks & feels wonderful & the left one...ugh....doesnt...just my luck..lol So...i am bummed...and feel a lil hopeless about my left eye..but will keep praying & hoping it will be fine...Others who have this disease know exactly what i mean...God Bless...and take care
